We've just completed some new renderings of an ADU in the Cully Neighborhood in Portland we have been working on for the past few months. The project is about to start construction and should be ready to move into by the end of the summer! Check it out: http://www.propelstudio.com/project/northwest-modern-adu/

Despite the strict ADU code, we aimed for a northwest modern aesthetic, with lot of windows and strong connection to the garden.

We were asked to design a small pavilion to act as the wedding chapel for a friend's backyard ceremony. The structure was meant to have a life past the wedding as an outdoor living room and place for the family of musician to hang out and play.

The project was a huge success as the centerpiece of the wedding and currently as family gathering space.

Check out the new Parklet that we designed for Bamboo Sushi in NE!

Collaborating with a local, sustainably focused sushi business, and a local fabricator we developed the design of this street seat to expand the sidewalk and introduce a safe and welcoming pedestrian environment. The installation adds 27 outdoor seats with table service for the restaurant. Our design balances the simple elegance of Japanese craft with the use of locally sourced and durable northwest materials. Natural wood, hardened steel, soft plants, and rounded river rock form the palate for the project.

This 45′ extra long street seat extends west from Bamboo Sushi on NE Alberta Street to reach the bike corral at the corner. The base is made from a simple cedar deck, weather sealed for durability. The tables rise up from the deck and cantilever out at various lengths and angles. The concept is to create a dynamic space that is unique, catches people’s attention, and draws them into the space.

Our latest ADU design focusses on creating a small, compact living space that incorporates sustainable technologies. The design includes Solar Hot Water, PV panels, Rainwater collection, grey water to flush the toilets, super insulated envelope, exposed concrete floor for thermal mass, low VOC paints and finishes, and a strong connection to the outdoors.
We couldn't have accomplished this without great clients. We thank the owners for setting lofty goals for the project!
Construction is starting soon with expected completion later this summer.

Architecture has a tremendous impact on the health of those who live in and use buildings. Investing in design can make your employees more productive (and your business more profitable), make students perform better in school, keep your family healthy and generally improve your day-to-day life.

Rather than making design decisions based on upfront cost, it is important to take a holistic view on the impact design can have and value architects can provide over the lifespan of a building.

Designing for health is more than designing a single building. It's designing places that bring neighbors together, using color and texture to help students excel in the classroom, incorporating nature into the office, and inspiring movement. Designing for health is about enhancing the physical ...

Nick Mira contacted me to bid a landscape design he had executed. He provided me with the design, which was a very modern paver installation, and clear instructions. Nick responded quickly to any questions I had and did a nice job of handing the client and project over once we were chosen. I have worked with quite a few landscape designers, landscape architects, architects, and contractors- Nick and Propel Studio are top notch and I would not hesitate to recommend them in the future.
