Check out the new Parklet that we designed for Bamboo Sushi in NE!

Collaborating with a local, sustainably focused sushi business, and a local fabricator we developed the design of this street seat to expand the sidewalk and introduce a safe and welcoming pedestrian environment. The installation adds 27 outdoor seats with table service for the restaurant. Our design balances the simple elegance of Japanese craft with the use of locally sourced and durable northwest materials. Natural wood, hardened steel, soft plants, and rounded river rock form the palate for the project.

This 45′ extra long street seat extends west from Bamboo Sushi on NE Alberta Street to reach the bike corral at the corner. The base is made from a simple cedar deck, weather sealed for durability. The tables rise up from the deck and cantilever out at various lengths and angles. The concept is to create a dynamic space that is unique, catches people’s attention, and draws them into the space.

We were happy to assist with this article in The Oregonian and even had a few quotes about the #ADU  boom, permit fee incentives, and the future of ADU's in #Portland

Granny flats, in-law apartments, carriage houses – whatever your preferred nickname for accessory dwelling units, they've been popping up alongside single-family homes all across Portland.

Propel Studio Architecture is a community oriented architecture, design, and development studio looking to work with creative, inspiring people and organizations. We look to the triple bottom line – environment, economics, and people – to create unique and inspiring solutions to design problems facing our city.

Propel Studio is a collaboration of multi-disciplinary, creative designers who are passionate about creating sustainable and beautiful architecture. Our designs respond to the context in which we build, integrating our buildings into each unique community, responding to climate, culture, and local materials. We work closely with our clients – listening to your needs, expectations and goals – to develop solutions that address program, context and budget. Propel Studio was founded with the idea that we could give back to our community by providing creative solutions to the built environment. We believe in creating socially responsible architecture that improves the places we live, work and play. With each project our studio explores the intricacies of the program, the unique aspects of each site and climate to develop a strong concept that we follow through the project’s completion. We work at all scales from small pavilions and homes, to neighborhood planning and commercial developments.

Propel Studio is a Portland Architecture firm and strive to make our projects give back to the larger community.

Nick Mira contacted me to bid a landscape design he had executed. He provided me with the design, which was a very modern paver installation, and clear instructions. Nick responded quickly to any questions I had and did a nice job of handing the client and project over once we were chosen. I have worked with quite a few landscape designers, landscape architects, architects, and contractors- Nick and Propel Studio are top notch and I would not hesitate to recommend them in the future.
