Your toothbrush is probably more disgusting than you thought — here's how often you should replace it. A New York City dentist says many of his patients never change their toothbrush unless he hands them a new one.
How often you should replace your brush depends on how often you use it, but you can tell it needs to go when the bristles start to bend.
Storing it upright will help it dry out between uses and prevent bacteria buildup.

FDA strengthens warning on opioid cold medicine. Cough and cold medicines containing opioid ingredients, such as codeine or hydrocodone, should no longer be given to children of any age, according to the US Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA announced Thursday that it's requiring revisions to the safety labeling on such prescription opioid cough and cold medicines to indicate that the products no longer can be used to treat children -- because their risks outweigh their potential benefits -- and should be used only for adults 18 and older. http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/11/health/opioid-cough-syrup-children-fda-bn/index.html

The most common pre-existing medical conditions. By the numbers, it looks like Americans are one unhealthy nation and could therefore have a lot to lose, depending on how the health care debate concludes.

As many as one in two Americans has some kind of illness or condition that was, at one time, considered a pre-existing condition by insurance companies before Obamacare. For older Americans, that percentage is even higher: About 86% of your aging parents and grandparents, Americans between the ages of 55 and 64, have one, according to government estimates.
Before the Affordable Care Act, Americans could be denied health insurance if they had one of several of common health conditions like diabetes, asthma and even acne. Obamacare generally stopped that practice. The law, in most cases, made it illegal for insurers to deny coverage or to charge people more because they'd been sick. It also put an end to most of the lifetime and annual benefit payment caps carried by some insurance policies, even the typically more generous employer-provided ones. https://tinyurl.com/y94wfl3r
