#SugarTax on soft drinks comes in to force today. It seems to be dividing the nation but, if it proves to reduce #toothdecay and #obesity, then it gets a thumbs up from us! To help protect your teeth and general well-being, we recommend sticking to good old plain #water 💧

The Priory Dental Care team are delighted to announce that Dental Hygienist, Jane Lloyd EDT, EDH, Cert of OHE (GDC No 5474), will be joining our practice on 1st March 2018!

Jane qualified as a Dental Therapist in 1973 from the School for Dental Auxiliaries, New Cross Hospital, London. In 1990 she gained a Certificate of Oral Health Education, and in 1999 she qualified as a Dental Hygienist at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel.

From 1973, Jane was employed by the Cambridge Health Authority as a Dental Auxiliary, gaining valuable experience in Community Dental Clinics working with nervous schoolchildren, and promoting Oral Health in local Primary Schools.

She later moved to Surrey and was fortunate to work with special needs groups as a Dental Therapist.

From 1999 Jane worked as a Dental Hygienist in Surrey, until moving to Downham Market in 2014, and has since continued to work as a Dental Hygienist in practices in Norfolk.

There’s an exciting new change at Priory Dental Care!

Having been the Practice Principal for the last 7 years, Dr Cheung has decided to take a step back so that he is able to spend more time with his family. After a long and careful search, Dr Cheung believes that he has found the right dentist to take over the practice. We are, therefore, pleased to announce that Dr Martin Hako has now become the new owner and Principal Dentist of Priory Dental Care. Dr Cheung will be remaining at the practice as a part-time Associate Dentist, with a view to continuing with his Denplan contract.

Dr Hako qualified at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University of Dentistry in Košice, Slovakia in 2005. In 2015 he gained a degree of ‘Master of Science in Restorative Dental Practice’ from the Eastman Dental Institute, UCL, London, and he is currently completing an additional diploma in Implantology.

Dr Hako began his dental career working in a small town near Pilsen, Czech Republic. He moved to the UK in 2010 and has worked in dental practices in North Wales, Wiltshire, Peterborough and King’s Lynn, before taking over as Practice Principal of Priory Dental Care in 2018.

Dr Hako speaks fluent English, Slovakian and Czech, and basic Romanian, Polish, Russian and German. In his spare time, Dr Hako enjoys camping, travelling and martial arts.

With the help of both Dr Cheung and existing support staff, Dr Hako will maintain the practice’s longstanding ethos and reputation for good quality, preventative dentistry, and he is very much looking forward to meeting you all at your next visit.

If you have any queries regarding the above, please don’t hesitate to contact us in the usual manner, on 01366 386666.

With all best wishes from the Priory Dental Care team

The festive season is upon us once again. A time to have some fun, enjoy the company of others and perhaps even give a present or two.

We are all looking forward to spending time with our loved ones over the Christmas period and will therefore be working on reduced hours during this time. A list of our Christmas and New Year opening hours are displayed opposite. Normal opening hours will resume from Tuesday 2nd January 2018.

Priory Dental Care is part of an emergency rota with other dental practices in Norfolk, therefore emergency cover is always provided whenever the surgery is closed. This includes evenings, weekends and all Bank Holidays including Easter, Christmas and New Year's Day. If you have an urgent dental problem, please telephone the surgery on 01366 386666 and you will hear an answer phone message with the contact number of the dentist on call. All dental practices on the emergency rota are located within a 30-mile radius of Downham Market.

If you're away from home and you are a Denplan patient, you also have supplementary insurance covering you for dental injuries or emergency dental treatment both in the UK and abroad. Contact the Denplan patient helpline on 0800 844 999 (or +441962 844 999 if phoning from abroad) and they’ll put you in touch with a dentist who can help. Please refer to your Denplan policy document for full terms and conditions.

If you can’t get to a dentist straight away, we have some helpful ‘first aid’ tips on our website: www.priory-dental.co.uk/faq Please refer to our ‘FAQ’ section under “What do I do if I have a dental emergency?”

In the event of any dental problem, please contact the practice in the first instance on 01366 386666.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year from the Priory Dental Care team.
