.+SparkPeople interviewed me for their comprehensive article about the ins and out of #bariatric surgery, which was published today:

Excerpt: "Dr. Sowemimo notes #wls surgery can improve diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, sleep apnea and chronic joint pain. And considering the comorbidities that come with obesity, the operation is considered to be extremely safe."

We have been vlogging Michael's story since he was wheeled into the OR before his weight loss surgery.

Six months later, he's down 100 pounds, is no longer diabetic, no longer suffers from sleep apnea and has a reinvigorated social life!

As a medical professional, I see every day how the mind affects health, emotionally and physically.

This week, a popular article is circulating which scientifically supports the premise that feeling grateful provides several key health benefits, including helping to offset overeating (an especially valuable commodity this time of year).

Results from a recent study found that acknowledging gratitude is good for body, mind and spirit 365 days a year, not just at Thanksgiving.

With that said, my gratitude is plentiful this year:

From celebrating my son’s first birthday, to performing a record-number of bariatric and laparoscopic GI surgeries, it has been a year to be grateful for family and a career I love.

For this, I am thankful to my wife, Fiola, my children and the unmatched dedication and skill of the entire Prime Surgicare team.

My thanks to you for sharing our journey, which honors health over wealth and family over everything else.

May your Thanksgiving celebration create memories that last a lifetime.
