I am originally from upstate New York, but am now based in Scotland.
For the past forty-two years I have been a guitarist and composer, and for most of that time a professional solo touring performer.
I perform my own compositions on acoustic and electric guitars.
I put out my first album, Acoustic Guitar, in 1979.
I have just put out my seventeenth album. It's called In Here Out There.
My musical influences include jazz, blues, rock, funk, bluegrass, country, world and classical.
In other words, everything.
I am known for having invented a new way of playing the guitar, called integrated percussive guitar playing. I began to develop this approach in 1987 -- already well into a music and recording career -- because I wanted to access more of the sonic potential of the acoustic guitar for compositional purposes, especially its percussive possibilities.
Because my musical tastes are so wide-ranging, I am never sure what to call my music.
I love to create music, and I love to perform it for audiences. It gives me the profoundest satisfaction to connect with people through my recorded music and live concerts.
Playing music has made it possible for me to indulge my passion for travel, adventure, foreign cultures, foreign languages...and photography (over the past three years I have gotten seriously into photography. I regularly post my photos on G+. The photography community here is awesome and I learn from it constantly).
I also enjoy mountain biking, swimming, exploring gardens, art museums, the outdoors, cooking, food and wine, whisky, cigars, movies and listening to jazz.
