Roots & A Revolution: Preservation Hall Jazz Band Turns A Page “So It Is”

Today we announce the release of our new album, “So It Is”, featuring all-new original music, out April 21st! “So It Is” finds the classic PHJB sound invigorated by a number of fresh influences, not least among them our 2015 life-changing trip to Cuba.

In Cuba, all of a sudden we were face to face with our musical counterparts. There’s been a connection between Cuba and New Orleans since day one - we’re family. A gigantic light bulb went off and we realized that New Orleans music is not just a thing by itself; it’s part of something much bigger. It was almost like having a religious epiphany. #PreservationHallJazzBand #SoItIs

The Giving Tree is a powerful idea: something that gives year after year. This year, Charlie Gabriel helped me pick our grapefruit and Louisiana satsuma tree and boy, has she given us a bounty this year. So much so, I'm inspired to share the bounty we picked with you, our supporters, this GivingTuesday. For donors that step up with a $500 or more tax deductible donation, Charlie and I will send you fruit from our tree. Yes, that's right, you read it correctly, Charlie and I are going to sit around and pack up boxes of fruit to send out across the country. Wishing everyone the healthiest of times.... Ben Jaffe and Charlie Gabriel. smarturl.it/PerpetuateTradition #PerpetuateTradition #GivingTuesday

I remember we had a handful of movies on VHS while I was growing up. Gene’s films were some of the first I watched (and probably shouldn’t have). I think in some ways he influenced my hair style. Gene was always an artist that made it okay to be unique and get outside of the norm. He was a jazz musician of the comedy world. We’ll miss you. Thanks for the laughs and inspiration.

We are honored and delighted to again share the stage with Elvis Costello at the historic Ryman Auditorium. Elvis is a one-of-a-kind artist that can wear many hats, and he does. http://goo.gl/35w8Gh
