Another resurfacing gone wrong by another company, they resurfaced on top of a painted surfaced again. We had to remove all the "old" (not so sold - 5 years old surface), sandblast to remove the paint, replace the tiles, prepare the surface, apply bond coat and now the pool is ready to be plastered.

I would like to share this sad testimony with our customers and friends about main drain entrapments:

Please take the time to read Victor El Khoury's own account of his daughter’s death, Sofia, aged 10, pictured below, just last July 2015, when her hair became entangled, in a suction grid at a Hilton Hotel swimming pool in an Acuapark, Turkey. He has kindly shared this and photos to warn other people of the dangers and to ask people to continue to support our campaign to make pools safer. While we ask you all to share the Facebook posts and pages, we are also working to ensure that the industry listens and want standards updated to prevent future deaths such as Sofia’s.
Hi,
It all began one year ago when I planned to visit my father’s family in Lebanon. My last time to visit was 20 years ago, and I thought it was time to go with my family, Jacky, Sofia, 10 years, and Martin, 7 years, and with my father & mother.
We left June 23rd from Cali, Colombia, to Beirut Lebanon, which was a very long trip. We were staying for 5 weeks.
The trip was perfect! Our kids were extremely happy meeting their family, playing with their cousins everyday, going to the beach and to many pools. We visited NAKHAL travel agency while we were there and planned a trip, deciding where to go (so many great options, for eg. Cruise going from Beiru to the Greek Islands!) Finally we decided to go to the Hilton Dalaman, in Turkey. I was impressed with how big and complete it was and because it had an ACUAPARK, and because it was a HIlton.
We arrived the 15th July to Dalamna, the hotel was great, and on the last day, 18th July, something unexpected happened.
As I went to have lunch with my wife by the main pool, the children went to the Acuapart to enjoy their last morning there, before we returned to Estambul.
Martin, my 7 year old son, came running to us, crying and shouting that something bad had happened to Sofia. We ran crazily to the Acuapark and when we arrived, we found some tourists trying to resuscitate Sofia, she had drowned.
I was crazy, yelling and shouting as I tried to find out what had happened. One person then showed me Sofia’s hair stuck in one of the suction grids, located in one of the walls of the pool.
The Suction had pulled in her hair and caused her to be trapped under the water and drown.
2 adult between them could not get her free from the entrapment, and finally they found scissors to cut her hair and take her out.
The ambulance took 30 minutes to arrive, and then another 30 minutes to take her to the closest hospital.
Sofia was in a coma for a week. We brought in a well known Israeli doctor (neuropediatric) on 22nd July, and on 25th July, she was brought to Dana Hospital in Tel Aviv. We knew she was in a bad condition but it was explained to us that she was Brain Dead on 26th July. We donated her organs to save other children’s lives. Soffy gave life to 4 Israeli kids and was national news, as organ donation is very low in Israel.
We didn’t sleep for a week, we didn’t eat, we just tried to survive and are still trying to live with our tragedy.
The accident would have been totally PREVENTABLE if the Hilton had have taken care of their pool.
The day after the accident, they put on a lifeguard, put in an emergency button, put a fence covering the suction grids so kids cannot get near them, and put on a 24 hour ambulance.
The worst thing is that the manager knew about the risk. He told me Soffy shouldn’t be so near to the grid, that is was dangerous ONLY if you go 5cms close to it.
I wanted to kill him but it would have made everything more difficult.
The conclusion is that HILTON made an ACUAPARK with a mortal trap, they never stopped the pool,
It’s not the first time this happens in a Hilton Hotel, we had a very known case in Colombia, in Hilton Cartagena like 8 years ago, also another case in Hilton Isla Margarita in Venezuela and also something happened in a Hilton in Miami many years ago.
I don’t know how this continues happening once and once again. I thought this type of risks was something from the past and hope that JUSTICE punishes HILTON as hard as they can. What we lived is something cruel, very hard to believe and to accept, and SHOULD´T HAPPEN ANYMORE.
Victor El Khoury…
