POLIMODA ALUMNUS IN THE FINAL FOR WHO IS ON NEXT? UOMO
GIANFRANCO VILLEGAS TO PRESENT AT PITTI UOMO 92

Each year Fondazione Pitti Discovery hunts for the newest Italian designers and international names who produce in Italy, for Who Is On Next? Uomo. This year, in collaboration with Altaroma and L’Uomo Vogue, six designers have been selected to show their latest collections at Pitti Uomo 92 #PU92 (June 13-15), including Polimoda’s own Gianfranco Villegas.

Self Made by Gianfranco Villegas is the brand that Gianfranco set up after graduating from Fashion Design at Polimoda in 2013. The menswear collections are inspired by his Filipino roots, Italian tailoring, hip-hop culture and the street fashion landscape, which with hand-embroidered details and carefully selected Italian textiles give his brand a strong point of view.

POLIMODA RENDEZ-VOUS WITH SIMONE CIPRIANI
SUSTAINABILITY & FASHION: A DIFFERENT VIEW

On April 19th, the Head and Founder of the Ethical Fashion Initiative, Mr Simone Cipriani, will come to Polimoda to speak to students and faculty alike on how the fashion industry can continue to grow and take more responsibility for humans and the environment at the same time. #PolimodaRendezVous

The words ‘ethical’ and ‘sustainable’ often have less than positive connotations within the fashion world, as they often bring to mind unappealing design accompanied by a look of haughty disdain, reminding us we should all be doing better. Simone Cipriani’s approach, on the other hand, is not only an exception to this as he comes from the industry, but is also rooted in possibility: he sees how fashion can not only increase sales and simultaneously improve practices, but also alleviate poverty. This is through something he calls conscious capitalism.

Focusing on creative micro-enterprises, fair trade and equal employment - both inside and outside of the high fashion industry - Simone Cipriani is a true conscious leader with an approach to design and production that is rooted in one simple idea, responsibility.

If you’d like to attend this very special #GuestLecture, please reserve your seat by registering on our website >> http://bit.ly/RV13-cipriani

ALUMNI DUE LUCIE & LUKE MEIER TO LEAD JIL SANDER
THEIR JOINT CREATIVE DIRECTION IS FINALLY ANNOUNCED

Since January, word about town has been that design power couple Lucie and Luke Meier, who have both successfully grown their careers in the fashion industry, were going to take over the Creative Direction at Jil Sander, together. This has finally been confirmed and we couldn’t be happier for the Polimoda alumni duo.

It all started over 15 years ago in Florence at Polimoda, when Lucie was studying Marketing after being “advised by several people that it was a very well-known school across the world”, and Luke, Knitwear Design. The two Swiss natives will now work on both womenswear and menswear for Jil Sander, with their first offering of the womenswear pre-collection and menswear presentation to come in June of 2017. We can’t wait!
