It's time for a new space! Planetary Society staff are packing up and moving to a stellar new location
It's really happening. We're leaving our home of five years on South Grand and heading to our new home just two miles east on South Los Robles.

$5K and 70 minutes to go for the 1.24m goal.  I'm certain we can do this.

While people on Earth take summer vacations, the New Horizons spacecraft will be busier than ever before
Three months ago, I posted an article explaining what to expect during the flyby. This is a revised version of the same post, with some errors corrected, the expected sizes of Nix and Hydra updated, and times of press briefings added.

This is what the future of astronomy looks like
Last week, more than 150 astronomers gathered in Nashville for a conference to examine fundamental questions in our field: Who gets to practice astronomy? How can we make astronomy more inclusive?

My suggestions for making astronomy more inclusive would include:

Having astronomers like Neil deGrasse Tyson and Phil Plait break things down into "real people" speak.

Showing astronomers as PEOPLE who love their science.

Showing that MANY disciplines attribute to astronomy - yes, astronomers and astrophysicists are important, but so are:

The mechanics who actually build the probes/rockets/rovers/telescopes The publicity person who handles the media and gets attention for the projects
The person or team that puts together the request for the money to build the needed gear
The writers who gather all the information and publish it for the historic record
The common person, who wants to know MORE

Introduction
The Planetary Society is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting space exploration around the world.

With over 40,000 dues-paying members, we advocate in the halls of Congress; we create our own space missions, like our solar sail LightSail-1; and we work to educate the public and increase awareness about current planetary missions.
