For anyone curious, this just worked with compiled versions of QT5 and OpenCV 3.0 on Raspbian Wheezy.

I followed this: https://wiki.qt.io/Native_Build_of_Qt5_on_a_Raspberry_Pi
and this: http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/27232/installing-opencv-3-0-on-raspberry-pi-b
A simple multithreaded OpenCV example application using the Qt framework.

My long compilation story.

So I was just working on getting opencv 3.0 (https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/27232/installing-opencv-3-0-on-raspberry-pi-b/27400#27400?newreg=38fc90b2e44f4f0da35d57bc1fe2b72f) to work, when I remembered I need qt for some openCV stuff I'm already working on that I'm going to port to my Raspberry Pi 2.

Then I realized I needed to build qt5 from source because openCV was looking for it (maybe I should have tried qt4 from apt-get first... I'll check on that later): https://wiki.qt.io/Native_Build_of_Qt5_on_a_Raspberry_Pi

Parting shot: if you are working on stuff like this on a Raspberry Pi 2 then ssh, tmux and make -j4 are handy little things to learn about.
Let's say I launch a bunch of processes from a ssh session. Is it possible to terminate the ssh session while keeping those processes running on the remote machine?

I've normally worked with 16 bit controllers in my day job with light weight rtos or bare metal solutions. But with the race for IoT on, I'm looking to up my game and do some prototyping. Looks like Raspberry PI is the way to go for self support reasons.

This will be for industrial closed loop control and diagnostics on things like friction brakes and pressure control, generally in the 10ms to 80ms range for the Loop time depending on if it's control or just fault detection. I know whatever I do I'm going to have to validate the performance myself, but what's the general consensus on these kinds of boards? Am I looking at the right hardware or am I going to have to go heavier weight to maintain these kinds of performance in a Linux kernel compiled with rt preempt?

An update. Went with the Pi2. Got QT5 and OpenCV 3.0 compiled and ran a quick test. I guess something about the current OpenGL implementation sends anything OpenGL into full screen mode... kinda wtf... but I'm only dinking around right now and video is not my main goal.

I was surprised to see this:
pi@PiTin2~ $ uname -a
Linux PiTin2 4.0.7-v7+ #801 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jun 30 18:38:23 BST 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux

So maybe I won't have to install a patched linux image as I understand it?

+Shawn Willden you are correct, but the poor wording of these rules could be read to many ways, and that was one of my peeves with this.

I hope we still live in a time of liberty and reason as your post would suggest. But I have seen too much of people, even former engineers, to trust a notion that it will 'just turn out ok' to paraphrase.

Move into a new place and your stuff hasn't got there yet and you really really need coffee every morning but are to lazy to go buy StarCrack. And you don't want to buy new coffee making stuff either? StarCrack still has you covered. For the price of a triple venti latte you can buy enough iced coffee to last you a work week worth of mornings. Horay for capitalism.

1st Amendment stomping to try 2nd Amendment stomping... I realize we have a lot of an-caps that won't vote and I can respect that, but what's the stance on dissenting by making public comments to the gov?

I'm just pointing out the fact that the EFF has beter principles than the ACLU. The NRA could also learn a thing or two and stop trotting out the violent video game and media card every time there is a mental health issue...

Why we should stock up now. Buy in the dip. You can build a surplus and help a friend with out scalping if the winter this author mentions ever comes.

Folks you have to realize that most of the anti gun laws that were pass were never meant to curb crime or stop criminals from using guns. Those laws were only designed to restrict the law abiding citizens of their rights to have or own firearms.... not to fight crime.
