Did I ever mention how idiotic grub2 is?

Here goes the "SIMPLE" info on password protection of grub2 based systems.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Passwords

Why do I think it's stupid? I TEACH people how stuff works and how to make good use of tech.

I know that people have problems understanding grub legacy. If I were to explain it to a n00b how to change the default entry in Grub2 I'd rather kill myself by executing hara-kiri.

I see more and more strange changes in Linux in last 2-3 years. Grub is not the worst of them all. Setup it once and forgot about it.

Delivering OpenStack course to a group of guys who created something like CloudForms x 10 is demanding.

That's what makes my work challenging and fun.

Definitely not for the dodgy at heart. One missed step and you're cooked for good.

Bind 9.9+ PRO TIP.

If you're running SLAVE server you'll see that zone files are some kind of binary blobs. It makes troubleshooting slightly more difficult.

Wanna convert that binary into text?

named-compilezone -f raw -F text -o /where/to/save/textform domainname /var/named/domainname.zone

There you are. :-)

You can change it back to text permanently if you want to with the masterfile-format option.

So, you're running F19/F20 and want th change a default sshd port to something stealth?
Modify "Port 22" into whatever fits your needs.
Restart sshd: systemctl restart sshd and .... it doesn't listen on your desired port.

It actually silently dies.

You need to specify sshd_port_t !

semanage port -a -t ssh_port_t -p tcp YOUR_PORT_NUMBER

Restart sshd and voila! There you are.
Kids, sshd is now fully confined. No more unrestricted bind().
