I am a researcher in linked open data. I believe a lot of frustration today is caused by data not being accessible (when does my train leave, how long do I have to queue, where does my money go, and so on). My goal is to increase your life quality by contextualizing data into information without you even noticing it.

After 37 years local governments are no longer obligated to provide a library. This means streams of funding that can be put in anything from a new swimming pool, to paving new roads. But is this a good call? Wouldn't it be better to start thinking about the library of the future? Let us know during AppsforGhent, #HackDeBib  http://appsforghent.be/

 * We scoren laag in internationale rankings

My PhD explained in 3 minutes at TEDxGhent. It's at the same time 3 simple reasons why it's better to open up transit information:
1. We don't want a separate app for each and every transit agency
2. We don't want the transit agencies themselves to decide what questions we will ask to our smartphone when the data would be shared amongst transit agencies
3. We don't want only 1 private company to build the only application: there are way too many users for this 1 company to come up with an app that works for everyone.

Opening up the data for (new) companies to enrich their services or products and opening up the data for the Web so that smart clients can do their own reasoning over the data, is what I see as the next big innovation in transport information.

First uses of the new transit datasets we have been releasing at http://hello.iRail.be are already there :-)
I think we can honestly be proud. Getting every possible #transit dataset #Belgium has to offer and converting it in something worthwhile sharing. Now lets collaborate, and get every service provider to offer new services on common data!  #shareingiscaring  +Erik-Jan van den Burg +Pieter Colpaert +Thomas Koch
