“I cannot say enough good things about Philly Personal Training and specifically, my trainer Shaun. I needed help with weight loss, nutrition and a right hip injury that was becoming debilitating. In the two months since I started seeing Shaun, I have seen a drastic difference in my strength, body mechanics, endurance and I’m down 14 lbs. Most importantly, my hip pain has almost completed disappeared. I am so thankful I went this route as opposed to the epidural injections my doctor recommended. Shaun created a workout specifically for my needs and I know he spends a lot of time and energy on tweaking it each week to fit my abilities. The fact that he’s a physical therapist as well is a huge bonus, one that most do not get from a personal trainer. I believe that is the main reason I have seen such a reversal in my hip pain. I have never felt like I was following some cookie cutter routine that is applied to everyone and I appreciate the focus on the individual. There’s no way I could have done this on my own. I have also benefited from the nutrition counseling I received from Theresa and learned many new ways of controlling my diet with a realistic approach. Philly Personal Training will always have a client in me as long as I’m living in Philly!”

“I cannot say enough good things about this place! It has changed my life completely!!! My trainer, Elizabeth M. is the absolute best!! I feel so incredibly lucky to have her as my trainer. It’s rare to meet someone as perfect at their job as Elizabeth.

I’ve been unable to workout consistently for several years due to workout related injuries and had almost given up on being able to exercise again. My studies also keep me super busy and I never thought I had the time to workout. This all changed when I met Elizabeth…within minutes she was able to assess my physical abilities and develop a regimen of exercises that get my heart rate up while strengthening my body. It’s been about a month and I already feel stronger, happier, and more agile. I have more energy and am able to study way more effectively. And she’s such a blast to work with that the time FLIES by.

I cannot express how wonderful it is to have peace of mind that I will not be injured during workouts. I feel so safe with Elizabeth – she knows my limits, but she also knows how to push me way beyond what I thought I could do, and the results speak for themselves. Her dedication to you as a client extends well beyond the gym. She’s  available via text for questions about diet/overall health and she is SUCH a knowledgeable resource.

The gym itself is fantastic as well. No frills, just great equipment and a huge variety of free-weights, machines, bands, etc. They keep it VERY clean, which I really appreciate.

If you’ve ever considered getting a personal trainer, or are like me and always say that you’ll get to working out when things settle down in your life and you have more time (which never actually happens)….try Philly Personal Training out. BEST DECISION EVER!!!!”

“In May of 2010, my father had major heart surgery which pushed me to take a look at my personal risks and the action I needed to take to reduce those risks. In June, I made the decision to begin a fitness program with an individual who was highly educated as a Personal Fitness Trainer. The education was very important to me as I wanted someone who could ensure my safety regarding how much I should do and how fast when exercising. I was very fortunate to have found that in Brian Maher of Philly Personal Training. Prior to working with Brian I lost 9 pounds and went from a size 12 to 10 by changing my eating habits but I could not get my weight down any further and my cholesterol, blood pressure and sugar numbers were still high. Brian put me on a meal plan and an exercise regimen that brought my high cholesterol, blood pressure and sugar down to normal ranges within 5 months. My doctor is now looking at taking me off of my blood pressure medicine which is a goal I never thought I would achieve. In addition, I lost 30 pounds during that 5 months and went from a size 10 to a size 0. I feel better than I have felt in 12 years and confident that I can maintain my weight and health numbers due to the education and confidence I have gained during my tenure with Brian. In addition, due to being in this program I am getting reduced rates on my health insurance at work.

Prior to working with Brian, I would workout by myself but never pushed myself as I was scared due to my age and being out of shape. Brian monitored my heart rate, the reaction of my muscles to exercises and gradually built my stamina and strength and before I knew it, I was doing more than I ever thought I would achieve. I am not a person who is disciplined to exercise, working with Brian has helped me achieve goals far beyond any expectations I ever had for myself. This experience has changed my life as I have energy, sleep better, feel and look younger and have achieved a fitness level I never thought I would ever achieve. I am more motivated than ever to maintain the health I am feeling.”

“I had worked out off and on for most of my adult life with acceptable results. However, after a few years of decreased activity I noticed the pounds going on, my energy level was falling and body fat going up. In the Fall of 2010 I finally decided something needed to change and began looking for a Personal Trainer. After careful research, I found Brian Maher of Philly Personal Training. I was impressed with Brian’s education, certification and approach. I have been working out with Brian twice a week since. This is one of the best decisions I have ever made!

In a few short months I lost 20 pounds and reduced my body fat by more than 5%. Then, with Brian’s coaching and running plans I ran the Broad Street Run, a Half Marathon and the Philadelphia Marathon within the first year of training with him. It had been 20 years since I had run on a regular basis and never competed in a race longer than a 5K. Running a marathon had been in the back of mind for about 20 years but I am sure it would not have happened if I had not started training with Brian.

Brian is extremely knowledgeable about fitness, nutrition and motivation. We regularly talk about goals and set new goals as achievements are made. His routine evaluations are helpful not only to track progress and measure results but to refine goals. We have worked out together for more than a year now and I don’t think two workouts have ever been exactly the same! He is great at adding new exercises and changing routines to ensure your fitness goals are met and to keep you focused, motivated and interested during every session. He often has a new “surprise” for me that is fun and challenging. He continues to push me to new levels!

Brian understands that good health and fitness doesn’t happen in a couple of sessions a week and he provides you with the tools you need to make the changes in your daily life. Whether that be a meal plan; or nutritional counseling; or a running/walking plan; or an exercise routine to do “solo”; or motivational tips to keep you focused on your goal. Brian has easily adapted workout routines and nutritional information as my goals changed. I look forward to my training sessions with Brian – it’s the best part of my week! During our training sessions I work harder and smarter than I ever could have by myself.

I am in the best physical shape of my life thanks to Brian!”

An awesome review about Rachel, just one of our excellent personal trainers on staff.

"Philly Personal Training has been an amazing experience to date and Rachel, my trainer, has contributed greatly to my experience (highly recommend her). She works with you and encourages you each step of the way. She's has a great sense of humor which makes the workouts fly by. I also have to give a shout out to Theresa who has helped me with my diet. Together they are a great team in helping me reach my goals. I've already noticed changes in my endurance and my body in less than two months. The PPT facilities are excellent and well maintained. Brian has done a great job creating and unique environment for his clients and I'm looking forward to continuing my transformation!  Thanks Philly Personal Training!!!"

“I have struggled with my body image my entire life.  I tried just about everything to lose weight including countless diets, camps, and even weight loss pills.

About 4 years ago my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, after completion of chemotherapy and radiation our family decided to support my mothers fight against breast cancer in the Susan G. Komen 3 day walk for a cure.  I was at my heaviest during this time in my life and my self esteem was at an all time low.  I barely made it through the walk and ended up in the hospital because I physically could not get through the walk. I was embarrassed and disappointed in myself.  This was when I decided to take control of my life by hiring a personal trainer.

I have had personal trainers in the past and none compare to Brian.  I have been training with Brian for about 3 years now and I have accomplished things I never thought possible.  I have lost over 50 lbs and dropped multiple inches.  I am more confident in myself and my self esteem has improved greatly.  It definitely wasn’t easy at first and I hated exercising, but Brian helped me gain my confidence back and pushed me to successfully reach my personal goals.  Everyday is a challenge when you struggle with body image and weight issues and Brian continues to provide me with the tools to continue to be successful and achieve my goals.”

“I have worked with many personal trainers over the years, but nobody else helped me reach the level of fitness that I achieved from training with Brian. When we first began my program, I had three goals – lose weight, increase strength and improve endurance. With Brian’s guidance, I not only met my original targets but exceeded them in numbers far beyond my expectations.

In six months, I dropped 48 pounds – 20% of my body weight, 15 pounds below my original goal and almost 7 inches from around my waist. My strength tripled on nearly every exercise we measured. Most incredible to me was that I went from run/walking a 5K in almost 40 minutes to my new personal best 5K run of 24:36 (I was never a runner before I met Brian).

Brian is not only a personal trainer, but also a coach. In addition to the two mornings a week we worked out together, he encouraged me to change my life habits so I could not only achieve my goals with him, but keep those high standards when I trained on my own. My nutrition improved and my “solo” workouts continued to strengthen even when I wasn’t in a formal personal training training session. I would recommend Brian to anyone looking for fast, effective and long-lasting results.”

The great reviews keep coming in about +Philly Personal Training!

" I guess the best place to start is at the beginning. Last January I woke up and my left knee was roughly 3 times the size of my right. After x-ray, mri, and fluid draining, my doctor suggested I work on strengthening my body so I can take some of the pressure off of my knee.

I had read an article Brian wrote, and decided to give him a call. After 2 or 3 reschedule, all my doing, we finally had the chance to meet and talk. I pretty much knew after 15 minutes or so that I was going to sign up. I liked the fact that the studio is small and private. I did not want any parts of some chain gym. He paid attention to everything I said and never tried to hard sell me. Naturally, he mentioned things that make Philly Personal Training unique, specifically all of the trainers having degrees in a particular, relevant discipline. He immediately understood the situation with my knee and what my doc wanted me to do.

I started working out with Elizabeth the following week. I had no idea what to expect, but after 3 months I can honestly say this is the best I've felt in a long time. My knee feels so much better, and even the everyday things are much easier. She does a great job of making the workouts challenging but manageable. We have some great conversation, we laugh, but she pushes me when I need it, which is pretty much every workout

I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. It's been a cool experience."

I have been working with Rachel at Philly Personal Training since October and so far, I love it. Philly Personal Training is great because they have their own facilities and they limit the number of trainer/trainees that are scheduled for the same time. So the gym is never crowded and there's never a wait for any of the equipment. Rachel is the perfect combination of personable and professional. How she manages to be chipper and motivating at 6:30 in the morning is still mind-boggling to me. She pushes me each session and I am constantly surprised at how much progress I make each week; I am so much stronger than I was just a few weeks ago. I am excited to continue seeing my progress over the next months!

Thank you - Shaun! I have been working out with Shaun for four months now. I am a woman in her 60s with a few physical "issues and challenges" but want to remain fit and active. Shaun is the perfect trainer for me. With his background in physical therapy, he understands how to strengthen muscles from the inside out. I couldn't be happier with my progress. I would recommend Shaun to anyone. Take it from me. You can overcome your own hurdles and fears with the right help!

Rachel is INCREDIBLE!! She has taught me so much more than just how to do a standard push-up or sit-up, she has taught me how to live a healthy lifestyle that is sustainable. She has pushed me past my limits and what I thought I was ever capable of and it's only been three months. I'm seeing changes in my body (and mind) that would not have been possible without Rachel's help. I can't wait to keep working towards my goals and to see my progress throughout the upcoming months. I highly recommend PPT to anyone that is ready to better their overall health and daily habits.

I'm SO glad that I found Philly Personal Training when I did. Breaking bad eating and exercise habits is really hard, but these folks are making it happen. The space is never crowded and you get individual attention from knowledgeable trainers. I always see familiar faces there, too, which I feel is a good sign- I'm not the only one that loves coming back. 3 months ago, I was paired with Elizabeth as my trainer and cannot say enough nice things. I have already started seeing results and I only spend about an hour a week with her. Most of the time I'm cracking up laughing, too. She's sneaky like that. If I had the time to do 2 hours a week, I imagine that I'd look like a supermodel already. Seriously, the trainers here are wonderful and the environment is warm and friendly. Most importantly, you'll see and feel results. Five stars and thanks for helping me get back into shape, Elizabeth!

Highly recommend PPT. Rachel is a great trainer - thoughtful & attentive, but still pushes you to your limits. They are always updating and refreshing the equipment in the gym which keeps the workouts interesting.

Rachel Rocks! Results are everything, and PPT gets results. I ran this year's Philadelphia Marathon and I shaved 10 minutes off my time, and in doing so earned a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon. And, more remarkably, my post-race recovery has been wholly uneventful: one week after the race I am back to my usual distance (including a 10 mile run this morning). It was an increasing frequency of injuries that made it clear to me that running as a sole means of exercise wasn't enough: the lack of balanced muscle use and no core strength training was making me prone to injury. I have been working with Rachel since May '15, and we have focused our efforts on those two goals, and there was a near immediate change in my marathon training with more frequent distance runs that truly felt great. Now, her next challenge is balance and core strength training to keep me on my skis in the mogul fields at Park City!

This place is great! The trainers are professional, and are sensitive to the needs of their clients. I went after I had a craniotomy and was diagnosed with a seizure disorder- so I was complicated. My goals were strength training, help with balance, weight loss, and renewed confidence is doing exercise. My trainer, Rachel Kessler was not rattled because like the others in the facility she is trained in physiology. Within two months I met all of my goals, and with her guidance am going to a regular gym (although I chose to continue one day a week because she continue to target my strengths and weknesses. I am now in better shape than some of my healthier 65 year old peers. The other thing is Philly personal fitness only has a month to month contract (as opposed to other gyms with personal trainers that lock you into a 3 month contract. ). Small facility with personal, quality service

So far my experience at Philly Personal Training has been great, and I don't expect that to change. Elizabeth is a great trainer, especially for someone like me who has previous sports related injuries. She is very knowledgeable about what exercises you can and cannot preform in order to prevent you from injuring yourself again and to strengthen that area that may need a little more attention. Elizabeth is also great at taking you goals and forming a work out that will help you reach them as fast as possible. If you're looking for a great gym with very professional, knowledgeable trainers, then I would definitely suggest looking into Philly Personal Training.
