We’re living in a technology malaise. Our news feeds and Twitter streams barrage us with banality: The Apple Watch ain’t all that, the Internet is full of dimwitted trolls, and the most pressing issue of the day is whether it’s moral to keep watching Game of Thrones. So I am...

p-hacking, Junk science and diet industry--A blatant example how bad observational studies misinform via mass media.
“Slim by Chocolate!” the headlines blared. A team of German researchers had found that people on a low-carb diet lost weight 10 percent faster if they ate a chocolate bar every day. It made the front page of Bild, Europe’s largest daily newspaper, just beneath their update about the Germanwings crash. From there, it ricocheted around the internet and beyond, making news in more than 20 countries and half a dozen languages. It was discussed on tel...

The double standard for white male Christians continues. Tell me with a straight face if this was an Hispanic or African American--Mr. Huckabee would have had the same response.

American prudeness.
By most accounts, David Olio was an excellent high-school English teacher, beloved by many of his students and their parents. But in February, the veteran teacher made a fatal error: When a student asked to share the Allen Ginsberg poem “Please Master” with his AP English class, Olio obliged, playing...

High school is not college and all teachers need to be diligent in their decisions regarding classroom content. That said I would have thought given the poem and the fact this is an AP class in Connecticut it would not have raised any serious concerns. I guess we haven't progressed as much as I'd hoped.

Ecocapsule is a low-energy house packed into a compact form. It merges an energy efficient shape, compact volume and off-grid capabilities with the luxuries of a warm bed, running water and a hot meal. Even though small in size, each Ecocapsule comfortably houses two adults.

“We are each free to believe what we want and it is my view that the simplest explanation is there is no God. No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization. There is probably no heaven, and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe, and for that, I am extremely grateful.”

Anthony at AAP (All American Plumbing) did an excellent job diagnosing and repairing my tankless water heater, added missing pre-filter and descaled. He also fixed a shower and diagnosed a whole house water pressure problem. Excellent qualty work, explained all issues and resolution before work started and offered suggestions for future maintenance. Best professional plumber experience for me to date.
