So the ICC in their infinite wisdom is reducing the number of teams in the 2019 Cricket World Cup from 14 to 10, mainly cutting out some associate member nations.

A lot of the complaints I hear about the World Cup are that the games are one-sided and the tournament goes for too long.

So, just look back to the England vs New Zealand game a few days ago. Neither team are associate members, or minnows, and the game was embarrassingly one-sided. As a cricket player I know there are going to be days when nothing goes right and it seems everything is destined to fail. It's one of the things I love about the game of cricket. Reducing the number of teams will not prevent one-sided games from occurring.

As to the length of the tournament. Well would some kindly explain in a tournament with 14 teams in two groups, we are only playing one match today (http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/match/656429.html)? The modern cricketers play back-to-back five day tests with a few days in between, yet they can't play a one day match every 3-4 days. Surely we could have a Pool A match and a Pool B match each day at two of the 14 available venues? This would see the tournament done and dusted in a month.

Lets not mention depriving developing cricket nations of competitive, meaningful games. They may get soundly beaten on occasions (unless they play England :) ), but they're able to gauge where they are in their development, and get clear working examples of what they need to do to improve and become more competitive. This goes beyond the eleven players that take the field, but also provides insight for the coaches, managers and other support staff.

If you're not going to allow World teams to play, then don't call it the World Cup. Unless you want to make it like the Baseball World Series, where only American teams compete.

+Telstra not too impressed with your Indian Call Centre for Foxtel tech support. Phone quality was abysmal. Didn't follow any of the usual verification processes. Wanted my address and phone number and told me that there was an outage throughout NSW\Vic for approx 48 hours.

Chalk and cheese to the support when calling BigPond tech support. Didn't need any of my details past the usual name and DOB, arranged Technician appointment and said there had been no outage at all in the past 2-3 days.

Surely some of the annual profits could go into giving some Australians jobs, or even better training and phone systems for the overseas operators.

+Telstra, Cheers Jamie. Technician arranged by Bigpond support arrived bright and early this morning and replaced faulty amplifier. All good now. Guess I've learnt not to call Foxtel support.

FOR SALE

Ok, I've finally made up my mind to sell the MS Surface Pro 2 that I won at SQL Saturday way back in April.

In all that time it may have been used about half dozen times and has sat forlornly on the side table. Main reason it's not in regular use is that I've never gotten around to buying a keyboard for it.

We already own a Toshiba U920t Win 8 table that has a sliding keyboard and a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Android Tablet. So a third portable device isn't going to get much use.

To be clear, this is the model that has 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD

RRP is AU$1000, and this unit is pretty much brand new. Happy to consider all offers, but please only serious purchasers.
