So the ICC in their infinite wisdom is reducing the number of teams in the 2019 Cricket World Cup from 14 to 10, mainly cutting out some associate member nations.

A lot of the complaints I hear about the World Cup are that the games are one-sided and the tournament goes for too long.

So, just look back to the England vs New Zealand game a few days ago. Neither team are associate members, or minnows, and the game was embarrassingly one-sided. As a cricket player I know there are going to be days when nothing goes right and it seems everything is destined to fail. It's one of the things I love about the game of cricket. Reducing the number of teams will not prevent one-sided games from occurring.

As to the length of the tournament. Well would some kindly explain in a tournament with 14 teams in two groups, we are only playing one match today (http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/match/656429.html)? The modern cricketers play back-to-back five day tests with a few days in between, yet they can't play a one day match every 3-4 days. Surely we could have a Pool A match and a Pool B match each day at two of the 14 available venues? This would see the tournament done and dusted in a month.

Lets not mention depriving developing cricket nations of competitive, meaningful games. They may get soundly beaten on occasions (unless they play England :) ), but they're able to gauge where they are in their development, and get clear working examples of what they need to do to improve and become more competitive. This goes beyond the eleven players that take the field, but also provides insight for the coaches, managers and other support staff.

If you're not going to allow World teams to play, then don't call it the World Cup. Unless you want to make it like the Baseball World Series, where only American teams compete.

Lovely show out east this morning. Brilliant Venus and a thin delicate crescent Moon. Would have been amazing to be out pre-dawn. Now if only I could get rid of this damn cough.

+Telstra and +Foxtel take note and maybe you can change before being cutoff.

The pricing on your cable offerings is forcing more people to asses other options. And charging $50/month for the Foxtel Play service, makes it easy to choose competitors like NetFlix.

In other news ...

All I can say is thank god. Now to get the house organised.

Whilst Mick has previously been a top notch head-coach, with an awesome record, I felt he was never right for Carlton.

When a coach is sacked, many people point to the current players performance and say it's their fault. From the games I've seen this year, there didn't seem to be any game plan beyond putting players on particular opposition players. (eg: Curnow on Selwood in the Geelong match).

It's clear we're a team with no confidence, but there doesn't seem to be anything happening to address that lack of confidence. I've seen a lot of players in and out of the side, not due to injury, which would really help your confidence as a player. Many, many players playing in unfamiliar positions (eg: defenders playing as forwards, etc...), another boost to confidence.

That sort of planning comes from the coaching staff and the match committee. The board also cops a whack for letting it get to this point in the first place.

Since Mick has taken the helm we've gone from bad to worse. At one stage we were recovering nicely through 2010-11. Now we've gone all the way back to the wooden spoon era of 2006.

So long and thanks for nothing ...

The drive out is a bit rough and you may think you've taken a wrong turn, but the oasis nestled in the bush at the end of the trip is well worth the effort. Was a pity that we found it so late in our trip, would have loved to stay a little longer.

Very, very busy place, even in bad weather. Could do with double the car spaces, and there still wouldn't be enough. Also, if you're using the BBQ's, make sure you watch out for the swooping Kookaburras.
