David and Goliath

I am truly enjoying the latest book by Malcolm Gladwell, but a small error in the audiobook was rather humorous to me.

Political Polling
I received a phone call last night at approximately 5:30. The caller was an older female (a quick glance at my driver's license reminds me of the need to be careful of whom I consider "older") with a slight southern accent. She asked if I'd be willing to answer a few questions for a survey regarding the upcoming race for the U.S. Senate seat in Illinois. Not having anything else going on, I agreed to participate. The survey lasted over 20 minutes, but I tried to answer each question honestly and even asked for clarification a few times. At the end, the caller gave me a sincere "thank you" for not only answering the questions, but for giving each question some thought. She added it is uncommon for this sort of engagement, although it is the most helpful.

I understand people are busier these days, but I don't think they are as busy as they try to present themselves to be. First, this was an American worker performing a job she is being paid to do. I can respect her attempts to do her job and was pleased it wasn't an outsourced service. Second, maybe this is a bit naive of me, but if my opinions regarding the issues we discussed make it back to the candidates and cause them to consider any of the actions that I stated cause me major concern, doesn't that contribute to the political process to a greater degree than even my individual vote might?

These calls might not always be convenient, but when they aren't inconvenient, the input we give might be more productive and beneficial to our future and economy than other things we are "busy" doing.

Communication is the key.  To influence behavior, we must not only provide clear instructions on what needs to be accomplished but we need to clearly and consistently communicate why we require the behavior.

Story
Tagline
Husband, father, military officer, tech & productivity enthusiast, life coach. It is my mission to provide answers to questions and solutions to problems.
Introduction
I am an avid tech junkie with a wife of 20+ years, two kids (one of each), and a dog. Other than the dog, we all have more gadgets and gizmos than we could possibly need. But that's the fun! It can get frustrating at times keeping everything connected and working properly, but I love technology and want to ensure my family is able to navigate through this sometimes treacherous maze of chips and resistors.
