Feel like you're going nowhere fast on your "content" strategy for local search visibility?  3 ways to make easier progress:
You shudder at the thought of having to write content for your site or pay someone to write it until the day you sell your business or buy Depends. Don't get me wrong: writing and sharing your best info over a period of months or years can have enormous payoff. My post “100 Practical Ideas for ...

Not sure how to find the best 3 Facebook "Local Business" categories - when you can't even see the nearly 800 available to you?  I've put together a complete list of categories:
Pick the wrong Facebook categories or not enough of them and your local-search visibility will suffer. Not only in Facebook, but also likely in Google (because Facebook results are often all over page 1). The trouble is once you've picked the basic “Local Business” category, you can't see all ...

Not sure where to put your non-Google local SEO energy?  This 16-point checklist might help:
The concept of barnacle SEO is simple enough: get visible on a site that ranks well in Google for the local search terms you're going after, because that's usually easier than getting your site to rank for those terms. (You'll still try to do both, of course.) I've also written about the ...

It's actually OK to publish your customers' Yelp reviews on your site.  There are just a few conditions:
There's long been a concern among “local” business owners and marketers that Yelp might filter or otherwise remove your hard-earned reviews if you copy and paste them onto your site. Yelp's a killjoy, so there's some basis for that assumption. But it turns out Yelp is fine with your publishing ...

+Chuck Hardwick would love your quick feedback on this business:

Schrage Chiropractic & Acupuncture
https://plus.google.com/+Absoluteomahachiropractic/about
http://absoluteomahachiropractic.com

They've been working together for 3-5 months.  Trying to rank for "Omaha chiropractor."

Detail from Chuck:

"Her website comes up on the first page of Bing under the phrase "Omaha chiropractor.

"And she is on the second page of Google with this phrase as well, so I feel like I am getting closer as this was not always the case.

"She was recently married and moved, so her last name changed which has been a pain to clean up some of the NAP mismatches.  Also one her friendly competitors shares the office space with a different phone number.  There is a duplicate in Google Plus that I am having a hard time getting rid of....I have been using WordPress with the Yoast Plug-in which has helped, but looking for some other guidance to get her on to page one, but ultimately I want her to have the Letter ""A"" spot in the maps and the number one organic position as well, as long as her budget permits."

Thanks to +Matt Maglodi , +Gene Maryushenko +Christa Morgante +Tim Roberts +Tony Wang , and +Kathy Long for all of the great ideas, and also to +Phil Rozek  for posting this in the first place.   I really appreciate all of you taking time to help out! According to my client,  The Google Plus duplicates have recently been reported to Google and hopefully should be merged soon.  Am I right in assuming that this could take about a week?  My client told me when she talked to a Google Rep on 7/9/2015, the Google Rep told her:  "I am going to talk with a specialist, and call you back after they are merged. "  I am guessing if they don't get merged by 7/17/2015, we should try again and hopefully get someone on the phone that can instantly merge them....

New program that takes a page out of #yelp  "Elite Squad" playbook:
When I went to Citysearch today, I noticed a wee something on the homepage: Citysearch has been in the reviews game for years. But this is CS's first attempt at creating a program akin to Yelp's well-known “Elite Squad” and Google's lesser-known knockoff, “Local Guides.” ...

+Joy Hawkins The year-over-year "before-and-after" shot is probably the most important, at least in my book.

Off the top of my head, I'd add that clients really start seeing the light when their new customers say, "I chose you because of your online reviews" - and those online reviews are a result of the strategy we developed.  That's huge.  (Of course, that means business owners will need to be in the habit of asking, "So how did you find us?" or "What made you pick us?", but they should do that anyway.)

Facebook reviews now get you an extra set of "review stars" showing in the local search results:
Facebook has been a sleeping giant in the local-reviews game for a year or two now – just as it's been a sleeping giant in local search in general. It's an excellent place to get reviews, because it's got the user-base, because it's easy to post a review, and because Facebook reviews don't get ...

It's busy around here. Lots of projects for clients old and new. Then there's blogging, LocalSpark, the time I spend running and lifting, and the need for a little time left over to be a halfway decent husband and to kinda sorta have a life. Much of what clients pay me for is work that only I ...
