Good to know. Stay safe everyone!
This Memorial Day weekend marks the start of another—hopefully safe—swimming season. In 2013, Mario Vittone dispelled a popular myth about how to tell when someone is struggling in the water. The original article is reprinted below. The new captain jumped from the deck, fully dressed, and sprinted through the water. A...

Yes!

I still remember when I told my mom as a young child that I wanted to be a math teacher and she said, "Well you need to make sure you know more math than your students". She didn't mean I knew 6th grade math as well as another 6th grader but that I understood math well enough to help them with any question they have (even if I don't know the answer).

I don't think I understood high school math until I studied Calculus years later and I hope educators of all ages will continue to learn math and otherwise so they can continue to inspire and challenge their students.

What happens whens students claim "I'm just not a math person"?  Here is my default reply.
In a physics class for elementary education majors, I often hear "I'm just not a math person". Here's why that's not true.

This is +Six13Sings best one on my opinion. Their videos are always good for teaching others about Jewish traditions like Hannukah and Passover. Now if they do a Rosh Hashanah and Sukkot I'm good.

The person who does end up helping the boy reminds me that the last shall truly be first in the Kingdom of Heaven. Don't pass up the opportunity to help someone, even if you only have a little, it can help a lot.

Writing this on a plane on the way back from a conference. If you can get some of the great insights and ideas from others without always needing to fly somewhere else do it.

These on air conferences are great I recommend checking them out.

Teachers often say they learn the most from one another. Luckily, technology today now helps us connect more easily, and educators don’t have to feel isolated. Join us for Education On Air, a free conference with no travel -- all you need is a web browser and an Internet connection to learn with other educators! #GoogleEduOnAir http://goo.gl/wSYlMU

A great visual. Is there anything Lego can't do?
What's a good blog on probability without a post on Bayes' Theorem? Bayes' Theorem is one of those mathematical ideas that is simultaneously simple and demanding. Its fundamental aim is to formalize how information about one event can give us understanding of another. Let's start with the formula and some lego, then see where it takes us. Bayes' Theorem states: $$P(A|B) = \frac{P(B|A)P(A)}{P(B)}$$ As far as formulae go this one i...

So many good points in this article. The world is fighting for your time and attention so you need to mindfully keep an eye on it. Do not check your email / social network during your most productive time (morning).

So get out of here and go do something brilliant :)

Good Friday everyone! It is a strange to celebrate the day that someone died, but you see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6,8.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus. In humility value others above yourselves. Philippians 2

I hope you have a wonderful Easter and remember all over again how great God's love is for you.

I was trying to do a GET request and could not get exactly the behavior I wanted. I try to use pure JavaScript when I can but I checked everything from the W3 spec to W3 schools (don't judge me) and nothing was working.

Finally I thought, I'll check jQuery. Of course they have a get() function and of course it does everything I need it to without any issue. Sigh jQuery, why are you so awesome?

Date night! My love took me to see the adaptation of my favorite C.S. Lewis book, The Great Divorce and it made me want to read it all over again. As my friend who introduced me to the book used to say, "The bus is always running"!

Hope you'll check out the book or find it playing near you.
