Nothing presses the nostalgia buttons better than a Star Wars trailer, but the thing that really does it here is the music. Takes people of my generation back to riding our Raleigh Grifters and eating Lemonade Sparkle lollies in a moment.

How do you measure influence on Twitter? #Klout  and #Kred  have claimed to understand this for a while, but most people have been a bit sceptical, to say the least. In this blog post, Captain Economics unpacks his algorithm to working out who is most influential, using economists as an example.
How is it possible to measure online influence on Twitter? And how to identify the top 100 most influential Twitter accounts related to economics? To address this issue, and following a methodology inspired by the working paper Measuring User Influence in Twitter: The Million Follower Fallacy , we develop a pretty simple program in Python to extract data about followership relation on Twitter, and we use an algorithm close to the Google PageRan...

There's been a lot of attention on the idea of managing your personal online brand. But when it comes to the CEO's online reputation, should PRs get involved?
For me, the PR manager and director has a pivotal role in this area. And it's in their interest too. Find out how in the latest +Firefly Communications blog post.

A good #TEDTalks  video for anyone involved in the field of marketing with +Rory Sutherland. He talks about the value of intangibles and the importance of perception in selling products and services to consumers. Includes lots of examples including the 'rebranding' of the potato by Frederick The Great.

If you have an interest in online identity management - professional or personal - then this piece on the Guardian is worth a read. It explores the question and ethics of managing an online identity and asks the question: what would you do if someone started tweeting in your name?
When a friend posted a photograph of charity worker Lindsey Stone on Facebook, she never dreamed she would lose her job and her reputation. Two years on, could she get her life back?

Nowadays you can report these 'infomorphs' to Twitter. It will usually suspend the account.

Good #TEDTalk  explaining about the optimism bias (essentially we all think good things will happen to us and bad things will happen to others). Watching it makes me think about implications in communications, particularly in areas such as healthcare and, right now, with an election campaign running. Also, I think that entrepreneurs are hardwired with a massive optimism bias.

"More than I know the sun will come up tomorrow, I know one thing: that marketers ruin everything". If you're new to wine library founder and social media expert +Gary Vaynerchuk, check out his digital marketing keynote shot last month. Here he talks about finding where the value exists while the rest of the market catches up + why we should be focussing on depth not width when it comes to evaluation.

If you're old enough to remember playing Atari computer games, you might like this. Google have been playing with their artificial intelligence unit DeepMind and pitched man vs machine to work out who's better at playing dozens of games from the 80s.

Google just made a massive leap forward in developing artificial intelligence (AI) - with the help of classic Atari games like Space Invaders and P

The ability to interview and film like a journalist is becoming an increasingly important part of our business. +Lucy-Ellen Steadman previously looked at the importance of interview skills in #PR, but today's part two blog is all about filming.

Introduction

My name is Phil Szomszor and I am UK managing director at Firefly Communications, a PR agency that helps ambitious businesses to grow.

Our mantra at Firefly is “PR in High Definition”. This means clearly aligning communications campaigns to our clients’ business goals and working together to continually improve.

We’re a nimble, highly-effective agency and my role as a hands-on managing director is to work with our client teams to deliver striking results and continue to improve Firefly’s proposition.

I’ve been working in PR and digital communications since graduating with a marketing degree in 1997. In that time I’ve worked with dozens of start-ups, fast track businesses and household brand names, combining media relations with social media and other marketing communications activities.

In my spare time I’m a blogger, podcaster and public speaker, so whether you’re on the look out for a new PR agency or some views about the industry, please get in touch.
