I'd recommend not installing an app that has obviously questionable permissions. Period. :)
I get that folks miss App Ops, even as a hidden feature. I think it was a real blunder on Google's part to have something like that available — even hidden — and then take it away. The unhappiness is warranted.
I've gotta imagine that Google's working on something for actual release, right? Or is App Ops just an internal, developmental thing that sloppily was included in a production build?
My real issue here is the way the EFF framed it.
Lobby to have selective permissions added to Android. Demand it. I think that's much more constructive than whining about something you were never supposed to see in the first place. (And, again, that goes to show how sloppy it was including App Ops in the first place if it never was supposed to be there.)
