Gnarly clouds over southeastern Washington on our afternoon drive back from Walla Walla. Things on the Palouse should be really popping in a few weeks!

A great writeup on the Sony A7/A7R cameras and some insight for things to come.

Full Frame a7/a7r Mirrorless Camera

http://www.colbybrownphotography.com/an-in-depth-conversation-with-sony-focus-on-a7a7r/

I recently sat down with the head Product Manager and lead Senior Technology Manager with +Sony to have an in-depth discussion about the a7/a7r full frame mirror-less cameras. We covered sensor technology, GPS options, flash support, the lens roadmap and much more.

If you have been thinking about picking up a mirror-less camera or already own the a7 or a7r, you will enjoy this post.

Vermilion Morning
Banff, Alberta

Best viewed on black

I've been hung up on this image for a while, its been my 'white whale' so to speak... Such a spectacular sunrise has become a tough image to process!  I think for now this is as far as my workflow will let me go, so I'm polishing up my skills with processing tutorials and trying to break past this plateau or 'processing slump' that I've been hitting with images from Canada.

I hope you enjoy this rendition, I'm sure it will evolve into something better once I can push my abilities!

Maligne's Icefall
Maligne Canyon, Alberta

So what do you do when visiting Alberta in the winter and a high pressure system moves in and give you blue bird skies?  Head into the icy canyons of course!  Myself and +Colby Brown  headed into Maligne Canyon with the awesome +Jeff Bartlett to explore the large icefalls that had formed this winter.  It was like a miniature Zion Narrows with some awesome ice thrown in.  This is a beautiful location year round but I highly recommend spending an early morning here if you find yourself visiting Jasper National Park in the winter.

Freeze Frame
Abraham Lake, Alberta

Just now sorting and selecting work to process from 10 days in the Canadian Rockies with +Colby Brown .  Beyond the grandeur of massive peaks and wild land that surrounded us, the fine details in the ice were something I really wanted to capture.  These bubbles are formed in numerous lakes in the Canadian Rockies, but most famous from Abraham as access is simple and the Chinook winds often keep the lake clear of any snow accumulation.

I got the chance to check out the new HTC One M8 while in Alberta with +Colby Brown  and I must say this is a sleek looking smartphone with some nice upgrades from the original. I had the original +HTC   One and it was a game changer for me coming over to Android from iOS.

So if you're interested in whats new with HTC, take a moment to check out Colby's in depth review.

Full In-Depth Review of the just announced HTC One M8

Just a few moments ago, +HTC announced the successor to the popular HTC One Android phone, officially known as the HTC One M8. For the past two months I have been using a near final version of their latest flagship phone, taking it with me to Iceland, the Canadian Rockies and Hawaii to accompany me on a few of my adventures. The result is an in-depth look at the new phone, its strengths, weaknesses and my overall thoughts as a photographer. Enjoy!

Northern Lights

Sorry for the new upload, had to fix the crappy quality upload.  Thanks for the tip.

On a recent winter trip to Iceland, I was fortunate enough to see a few good displays of the aurora, which was the main reason for the trip. Chasing the aurora can be quite challenging, since it is based not only on the aurora forecast, but also cloud forecast, as well as the direction of the display. On this particular evening my main composition was setup facing to the right of this shot, just waiting for the aurora to show up, but it turned out to be the best in another direction. I quickly tried to find a composition to take advantage of the display while it lasted.

I love +Michael Blanchette 's work, and I'm really digging this shot from Norway.  I hope to add this place to my travel list for the coming years :)

Sunrise at the Fjord
Reine, Norway

In preparation for my upcoming trip to Norway, here is another photo from my March 2012 trip. This is Reinefjord from the village of Reine, considered among the most beautiful in all of Norway. This was taken at sunrise, with a reflection of the snow-peaked mountains in the fjord.

Introduction
Society speaks and all men listen, mountains speak and wise men listen.

-- John Muir

I shoot landscapes.

If there is a common theme amongst my images, its solidarity.

I shoot Canon - full frame.

I've moved past filters for more advanced editing techniques, but the Formatt Hitech Filters are my choice for circular polarzers and solid ND filters.  Check out their new IRND series!

Sean Bagshaw's tutorials, a non destructive workflow and Tony Kuyper's Luminosity Layers are my essentials in photo editing.

I am a huge proponent for F-Stop Gear backpacks - nothing out there comes close.

Recently engaged, slowly figuring out ways to follow my passion for photography in a sustainable fashion.  Branching out and working with various entities and serving as a sherpa for Colby Brown discovering the wonders of Iceland this September- won't you join us?
