New on the blog - I"m working on some new gear for my travel adventures, so I put together a list of 5 items that should be on the gear wishlist.

http://www.rphphoto.com/blog/2015/3/11/5-pieces-gear-that-should-be-on-your-wishlist
I'm a bit of a gearhead, especially with the items I bring along in my outdoor adventures that play an important role to the success of the trip.  With new travel opportunities emerging over the past few months and more just around the corner, I've been penciling a list of big ticket items to purchase that will be added to the packing list.  These items I qualified for this list as a result of having significant influence (either dire...

Machu Picchu in Peru is beautiful no matter what the weather, but when the sun is shining through the clouds and you have a scatter of fog rolling in, there's nothing to do but watch and photograph. ‪ #travelphotography   #tglperu

The Nun of Preah Khan
Cambodia

I never thought I'd find myself typing these words. "I enjoy taking photos of people."  Yeah, hard to believe isn't it?  That being said, I'm not running people down in my local town to grab a snapshot, but while traveling abroad the human element is one of the most compelling parts of my journey.

This Buddhist nun was sitting inside Preah Khan temple, offering blessings to those who passed.  I thought her facial features and expressions just teemed with so much character that I had to get her photo.  After taking a few shots I said thank you and was about to leave when she grabbed my hand and proceeded to bless me.  As she was performing the blessing her eyes became wide and intense, it was definitely one of my favorite moments from the trip.

I can't wait to go back to Cambodia, I think it has now unlocked my desire to travel in Asia and see what the region has to offer.  I have a feeling it may become one of my favorite places.

Cheers!

Brace yourselves, spring is coming

I usually am the cold weather junkie but for once I'm really eager for spring to arrive and the lushness of the landscape to return once again.  Here's one from the archives from the Palouse, I love the land boundary in this one breaking up the rolling hills.

I've go a new website up and running thanks to the folks over at +Squarespace where I'll be not only housing my portfolio but I have a blog that will be seeing frequent contribution as well as workshop announcements and fine art print sales.

The Mountain

The mighty Kirkjufell, or 'church mountain' in western Iceland is an iconic feature on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. This was our first major stop on our visit in September and mother nature went from teasing us with potential for nice light to moody clouds as rain and high winds began to beat us down that evening.

Regardless of the weather I was loving the dark mood here coupled with the good water flow from the cascades above the waterfall, Kirkjufellsfoss. A 2 second exposure time on the tripod here gave me some silky smooth water to go along with all the darkness that was rolling in.

I can't wait to get back to Iceland this summer, I love everything about this country! Are you coming with me ?

I'm as excited as this #llama to be going back to Peru this year with +The Giving Lens.

This about sums up our feelings on it being Friday, too!

This amazing llama is lucky enough to call the pastures of Machu Picchu in Peru home. Now that's a view we could get used to everyday. #tglperu   #travelphotography   #machupicchu

Introduction
Society speaks and all men listen, mountains speak and wise men listen.

-- John Muir

I shoot landscapes.

If there is a common theme amongst my images, its solidarity.

I shoot Canon - full frame.

I've moved past filters for more advanced editing techniques, but the Formatt Hitech Filters are my choice for circular polarzers and solid ND filters.  Check out their new IRND series!

Sean Bagshaw's tutorials, a non destructive workflow and Tony Kuyper's Luminosity Layers are my essentials in photo editing.

I am a huge proponent for F-Stop Gear backpacks - nothing out there comes close.

Recently engaged, slowly figuring out ways to follow my passion for photography in a sustainable fashion.  Branching out and working with various entities and serving as a sherpa for Colby Brown and team leader for The Giving Lens, you can find out more on teaching opportunities here.
