Just uncovered a scamming service! They picked the wrong person... (tl;dr... Patriot Protection Shield is looking for suckers, beware). I would love to be wrong here, but I've dug too deep to think otherwise.
Background: for several months, a company billing itself as extended warranty coverage for Toyota has been calling me offering their services. Initially, I would decline, but after a while and their persistence, I figured I would hear them out. After confirming my vehicle, mileage, and address, I would be put on hold and eventually connected with the "Toyota Specialist". They would confirm the facts again, but I had some suspicions, so I would ask for their company's address. No one would give me this answer and would reply "that is against company policy". Today, they called me at 4:56pm (est). Same spiel, different person. The gentleman said, "I hear frustration in your voice, I will put you on our Do Not Call List." "Ok!" I figured, finally this is over. Then at 6:31pm, another call, another spiel, same outcome... Both numbers had my local area code. So I tried calling the first one back, disconnected number... Ok. but calling the second number back lead to some results. The line immediately picked up, no ring, but the person on other side waited a few seconds to say,"Hi Patrick! I'm calling today to offer you an extended warranty... Blah blah blah". Weird. I called them, but ok, lets see where this goes. I reconfirmed my mileage, etc, got put on hold for specialist, only to be greeted by a "supervisor" with a confrontational tone and obvious annoyance at my request for the companies address. I finally did get the "Patriot Protection Shield" company name. BBB reveals formed in 2013, no reviews, not accredited, Irving CA. Ok, something. So I kept calling back, like 40 or so times. Each time, a new phone monkey, each time, the same spiel, until after 4 times or so, then I would hear in the background, presumably a 'supervisor', say something like "don't talk to him, he keeps asking about our address"... When I would call, I'd get 2-5 seconds of "office chatter" before the phone person would greet meet me. I would hear a male voice say my name and instructions on how to handle me. Eventually, i'd get various replies of "we will put you on do not call", "goodbye", etc... I started messing with them, offering them extended warranties, which lead to fun role playing improv, and a few of them played along, not privy to my 'blacklisted' account. I spoke to 4 supervisors, each one more hostile than the last. Sometimes, the initial phone person would take a minute to read the 'blacklisted' portion on their computer screen, so I would get the whole friendly, helpful spiel, only to hear a 'supervisor' in the background give instructions and hang up on me. But the number i had kept working, and I was on to something.... At one point, i heard in the stealthy preamble, "I want Patrick!" Apparently I became a quick legend and some phone people sought my entertainment. This was fun, but only lasted an hour or so until they disconnected the line.
So after researching, I found the proclaimed CEO (one of the 'supervisors' intorduced himself as Brandon, but may be someone else). and his COO. Here are their profiles from LinkedIn for your pleasure:
CEO at the following: Patriot Protection Shield, DataZation, Serendipity Student Loan Relief, New Paradigm Saints
Orange County, California Area Executive Office
Patriot Protection Shield FKA Liberty Protection Group
Orange County, California Area Insurance
This is a call to action. They picked the wrong dude to mess with and I know their strategy is to poach elders and the susceptible. Scum like this hurt our society. Let's take them down. If there is any chance that this is a total miscommunication and they are a legit company, I beg them to come forward with ANY proof. The fact that the phone numbers were a local area code (not California) and their reluctance to give a company address raises more red flags. Investigation runs deep in my blood and people preying on the susceptible makes my adrenaline boil. Wish me luck and any help would be appreciated. http://www.bbb.org/sdoc/business-reviews/extended-warranty-contract-service-companies/patriot-protection-shield-in-irvine-ca-1022082
