Being an Artist Also Means Being a Good Box Maker
I've found one of the most important aspects of being a good artist is being able to package your artwork for shipment. That is so important as much of my business is done on the internet. It's one thing to create a beautiful piece of artwork. It's quite another to make sure it gets to its destination safely and in the same shape I sent it out. Here's a little on my process.

At the end of the day, I check my email; that's usually when I learn of orders that arrived on my internet doorstep. First thing the next morning, I'm out in my shop cutting and shaping cardboard to pack up the artwork for shipment.

All of my shipping materials are recycled from car dealers. I happen to be a great dumpster diver. I'm lucky to have a few body shops in my area which are my go-to places for cardboard and bubble wrap.

I've had a few different jobs over the years but by far this is the best one. I love this life and I wouldn't trade it for anything -- even if I have to jump in a dumpster once in a while. It's all for a good cause - and that is to make sure you get my artwork as I intend it to be.

A1967 Corvette Stingray was my inspiration. Using a guitar shape as my canvas, I set out to combine my client’s love of Corvettes with his love of music. Then I used vintage auto parts and license plates to bring the piece to life. Here are the details:

I used license plates to spell out 1967 for the year and 427 for the engine at the top to represent the keys.
I spelled out CORVETTE down the neck with vintage tags with a red, white and blue underlay to give it the classic Chevrolet feel.
The body and hood stinger is created from license plates that are sculpted and shaped to resemble his favorite car.
I used a 1967 Corvette gas door with the crossed flags logo -- one of the iconic parts of the car -- in the center hole.
The original Corvette designer, Zora Arkus-Duntov, is featured on the guitar body, as Dale explained our client was very fond of him. I used vintage General Motors emblems to spell out his name at the bridge position.
At the bottom of the piece I wrote out STINGRAY in license plates to complete the face.
Around the outside of the piece I spelled out "worlds Largest Corvette Collection. Its on of the clients many distinguished accomplishments.

Wedding gift created from license plates tells this couple's story
I created this wedding gift for a husband and wife team, who both wrote to me to express their happiness with how it turned out.

Wife: I described how I worked with you and relayed "our" story, so that you could create the piece. We are extremely pleased with it and am very thankful for the time you took to create such a piece of art that represents "us." Thanks again! We are so happy with what you have created for us!! Please feel free to post on your website. We would love to show others your work!
Wedding gift
Husband: My fiance worked with you to bring our story to life. It was an amazing experience for her. Last night she gave me the guitar you made for us when we got back from our wedding. I can't possibly put words to my feelings. The time you took to understand what she was trying to say is evident in every detail.

Music is therapy to us, and the guitar so symbolic of what brings us together. I just wanted to say a simple thanks, although that doesnt possibly seem like its enough. I LOVE the guitar and will cherish it forever. It truly is our story that took us to our wedding day. My hope is to someday meet you to express my thanks more appropriately. And to one day be able to come back to you with "the sequel" as our lives continue to take us amazing places. Nothing would make us happier to capture those memories much the same way - though your eyes in art.

The perfect gift for a #Springsteen fan. My client collected these unique, small tags, which I used to create this #licenseplateart  guitar. It's the perfect gift for any #musiclover.
