Is there a need to generalize current deep learning techniques and to define guidelines for datasets with certain properties? I found that in research papers a lot of specific techniques are used on different datasets.

It would seem to me that there is a need to define guidelines for which techniques work wel on which kind of data. For example which techniques work wel on spatial data in general, and not just on images.

Can anyone share some thoughts on this perceived need?
