Spoiler alert - if we leave the EU, it will end up costing the UK a hell of a lot more in the long run! And not just financially...

Right, it's time for some FACTS, you know those rational and researched things the various media outlets and political parties seem to be incapable of reporting in their unaltered and fully factual form.

Professor Michael Dougan has spent his career studying EU law as it relates to the UK and in this video he goes into great detail about how the facts of the EU referendum debate have been heavily abused for politically driven ends. Crucially, Dougan also goes into some detail about what will happen if the UK decides to leave the EU - a scenario which thus far nobody has really outlined.

"My specialism is European Constitutional law, I look at the EU institutions, I look at relations between the EU and its member states – specifically the UK – the single market and the free-movement of persons in particular.

For the most part, I have participated in this debate as an academic expert, I have acted as an adviser to the cabinet office, I have given evidence to various parliamentary committees, I have been acting as a consultant to the BBC for its coverage of the legal issues in this debate.

I will put my cards on the table, partly because it is true and partly because I feel that increasingly I have been forced to that I am obviously going to vote remain. For one very positive reason and for one perhaps very negative reason.

The positive reason is that my twenty odd years of professional experience working on the EU has left me very firmly of the opinion that it is in the national interest to remain what we are now, which is one of the leading powers in one of the most important international organizations on the planet.

The more negative reason is one also directly linked to my work, which is I have just watched with increasing dismay as this referendum debate has unfolded. Although the remain campaign have not exactly covered themselves in glory with their use of dodgy statistics, I think the leave campaign has degenerated into dishonestly on an industrial scale!

What I have found particularly difficult is that I have dared to say some of these things are not true, some of these things are not actually accurate and I found myself being treated with personal insults about my credibility and competence and so on.

It’s probably the equivalent of an evolutionary biologist listening to a bunch of creationists tell the public that creation theory is right and evolution is completely wrong – it really is that bad for someone who is a professional researcher in the field."

"Each episode has a different focus and format presentation, but all the episodes build on one-another and all come together to present a constructively unified exploration of how cinema and media as a whole play a very revealing, strengthening and defeating role in the human psychology of ignorance."

A short blog post exploring why I am making the Breaking Cinema podcast.

"The Use of Lateral Thinking is a concise and very accessible book which I would absolutely recommend to everything as it is a road map for a broader and more creative process of thinking, ideation and problem-solving that can be applied in all areas of life."

"In the offline world it is very expensive to experiment and test, the cost of failure is very high. As a result we don't take risks. We keep doing what we think "works", until the day we go bankrupt.

The web changes that."

All the Little Animals is a simplistic gem of a book about a very simplistic individual’s point-of-view of the world. The protagonist, Bobby, a grown-up who possesses the mentality of a young boy, due to an accident he suffered as boy, is a delightful narrator of his journey to come to terms with a world that is equally brutal and beautiful.

If you want escape the hectic adult world and return to a childhood simplicity, then this slim volume will keep you happy for the relatively short time it will take for you to complete it

Lateral thinking is very much key to understanding what I am attempting to achieve with the Breaking Cinema podcast and, as such, I have gone about illustrating a lateral process of enquiring within the subject matter and as the film formulaic structure of this unfinished Vision Video...

“All media work us over completely. They are so pervasive in their personal, political, economic, aesthetic, psychological, moral, ethical, and social consequences that they leave no part of us untouched, unaffected, unaltered. The medium is the massage. Any understanding of social and cultural change is impossible without a knowledge of the way media work as environments”

In Understanding Media, Marshall McLuhan proposes that every form of human invention from the blade to the television is a form of media and that all media are extensions of the human being.

I really want to get a cat, because I think they are such beautiful creatures. However, my current tenancy agreement will not allow me to get one, but I will more than happily settle for a Cat Cafe. £10 well spent!

As with all the MOOCs offered on Open2Study, Human Resources is a very concise and very accessible introduction and overview to the field of people management, recruitment, development and performance.

Economics is everyone’s business and this book is geared towards making its reader more than capable of being an active and perceptive practitioner of economic practice.

Economics is something to conceptualise, not to memorise.
