Damn, that's some shameless demagoguery.
My Political Compass reads -7.00 / -5.74 which means essentially a lefty libertarian. I've been a union activist and delegate, worked as a lobbyist in Ottawa and ran for office provincially in Alberta for the NDP. I've also worked as a journalist and editor and had fiction published.

The stories about Amazon recently caused a bit of a stir where I work, a bit of debate about their veracity. The cynical part of me noticed that there have been stories about working conditions at Amazon for a long time that didn't ruffle feathers in the same way.
How to parse the Times’s exposé of Amazon, and Amazon’s response.

"Ibbitson writes that Conservatives lamented the advent of the Charter in the 1980s, fearing that courts would override Parliament.

The top court “obliged their worst fears” with rulings that have limited police powers, struck down the abortion law, and extended civil rights to gays and lesbians."

Oh noes.
Harper privately fumed to his inner circle the Supreme Court of Canada has become a 'sociology seminar' that emasculates the power of Parliament

I wish new shoes didn't always go straight for my Achilles tendon like they were trying to murder me.

I feel that I spent a large part of my life being trained to think that I could bend my head around any problem through dispassionate reason alone. It wasn't intentional on anyone's part, that was just the implied context of everything else: the background noise of my life. I also feel it left me with no coping strategy for when I couldn't bend my head around a problem through dispassionate reason alone.

This review of a children's animated film in the all-caps voice of a fictional character touches on similar themes, because the internet.
Hulk loves this coming-of-age masterpiece.

Today I learned that "carpenter bees" are a thing. It's not the most comforting knowledge. They're enormous, for one thing: this one was about the size of the end joint of my thumb.

If you see the value of listening to people, here are some people to listen to.

The were very patient with my poor organizational skills :-) Also, they're now at 261 Frederick St.; the old 100 Victoria Street address was in a building that has since been demolished.
