Is anyone using Modes (as described in Atomic Robo: http://fate-srd.com/atomic-robo/modes)? If so, what do they add to your game? To me they seem very complicated and don't add anything I don't already get from aspects. What am I missing?
What Modes Are. A mode is a broad area of competence, represented as a group of skills connected by a common theme. For example, the Action mode includes skills about things like running, fighting, and piloting, while the skills in the Banter mode are all about social interaction.

Sure.

And more than that, every skill you put in your custom mode has to make sense. You have to be able to justify it.

Got Mindjammer from the mailbox this morning. Brought it into work... that is one sweet product. I am really glad I contributed to the kickstarter. It is fantastic!

Has anyone here tried Fate (Core or Accelerated) with http://www.fantasygrounds.com/? It looks interesting. I'd like to get some real world feedback from anyone who has used it with Fate.
Take a Tour of the features in Fantasy Grounds. Fantasy Grounds is an application acting as a virtual online gaming table primarily intended for pen and paper style narrative role playing games. Fantasy Grounds is designed to perform many of the things you can do while playing at a conventional ...

For the record, I don't like "free" stuff on the web. After decades of giving up privacy and being inundated with ads and crap I'd just rather buy a thing than be sold to marketers. YMMV. I tried Role20 a couple of years ago and wasn't happy with it. Perhaps I should revisit it. Sounds like I should play with Fantasy Grounds' free trial of it before I invest in it.

Well it finally arrived! I am currently batting 100% with Kickstarted projects. However I don't invest in many. Most have been late. However all have delighted when they finally arrived.

My heart is racing! Something was in the house. I don't know what. It could have been a really dumb burglar. Or could have been a raccoon. Some things are messed up. But it's gone now. Back door was unlocked. Swing door was wide open. I'm pretty sure all those things were closed when I went to bed. My money is on a raccoon or two.

I am considering an airsoft Uzi from Walmart ($99!) for animal encounters. Not enough to kill, plenty to say "we aren't going to get along!" The place is quite isolated. I keep much heavier ordnance for the 2 legged pests. There was a second breach at 2:30 in the morning, possibly. Or one intruder got left behind by his buddies. Or it was simply something was knocked unstable and gravity took a while to deal with it.

It refers to the habit of some blaster mage players to not be entirely precise with their area of effect attacks, thus putting some "friendly fire" damage on allies caught in the affected area.

As it happens, a former player who was particularly well known for this habit sent me the same pic earlier today.

Recently I've been catching up on gaming. I've been avoiding buying new games for about a year because real life had me busy. Now that I have more time I've decided to check out games I missed. Though it got mixed reviews, I have to say, for $10, Watch Dogs is a fun GTA like game. In it you are a vigilante who must use hacking skills, and driving and evasion skills, to get though the story line. There are some pretty fun puzzles and mini games in there as well. If you missed it, now is not a bad time to check it out for easy money.

Early morning fog swept through the trees to greet me today. The sun played with light and shadow, creating a subtle web. The air was still and and quiet.

I've started work on the campaign game for my old west miniatures game. This is a six map. You can move left, right, up, down, then fight an adjacent posse, or not, then stake a claim if ownership is open, and finally a map action. The squares have different actions available. Usually you want to attack a posse trying to get points or that has commodities it is transporting. The game ends after a set number of points has been won.
It all needs playtesting and the missions need writeups. The base game took a while to get polished, and its safe to say the same applies here too.

Has anyone come up with a generic fantasy hack for one off FATE Core games?

Another option would be to use D&D flavored professions as outlined in the Fate Toolkit in lieu of skills or approaches.

My vegan girlfriend was so happy to find out the lobster tail pastry had no actual lobster in it! The food and coffee are delicious!
