From a current political science student's standpoint, I find it interesting to read occasional pieces where economists talk of "paradigms" and "paradigm shifts", mentioning Kuhn and Lakatos. I get the sense quite a few PoliSci people feel economics is a cut above political science when it comes to rigor and producing theory, yet economics faces the same kinds of angst in regards to "doing science". It's a social science, too, albeit one that studies particular behavior (though the edge between it and political science I'd call "porous", if not "ephemeral"). "Bringing History Back" might not be a bad title for the increasing efforts to revisit not just the history of economic thinking, but economies throughout history, in order to get economists and economics students to be as critical of their own theories and models as possible. Good luck to them.

There's no way that's going to work so well... I guess we'll see!

We think technology should work for you—to be there when you need it and get out of your way when you don’t.

A group of us from Google[x] started Project Glass to build this kind of technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment. We’re sharing this information now because we want to start a conversation and learn from your valuable input. So we took a few design photos to show what this technology could look like and created a video to demonstrate what it might enable you to do.

Please follow along as we share some of our ideas and stories. We’d love to hear yours, too. What would you like to see from Project Glass?

iPads Taking Over More and More Specialized Tasks

"Since Apple’s first iPad came on the scene in 2010, people have wondered if tablets could stand in for computers. Few would argue they’re not up to casual tasks like Web browsing and emailing, but what about the more demanding ones? What about, say, photo editing? Until recently, that was firmly out of the question."

Tablets (read: the iPad, for now) won't be stand-ins for full-fledged working machines for some time to come. Multitasking, multimonitor, and/or highly speciliazed and processing-intensive tasks will still be the domain of more classic personal computers (whether PCs or Macs), but for the "casual" or "average"--and increasingly "pro-sumer"--user, tablets' usefulness in everyday computing is at that point where their sufficient. That didn't take long.
An in-depth look at iPhoto for iOS and how well it works on Apple's new Retina display when editing high-resolution images from a DSLR.

"'A time comes when silence is betrayal.'..." (Martin Luther King, Jr., 4 April 1967, Riverside Church, New York City)

"And they were deeply offended and refused to believe in him. Then Jesus told them, 'A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his own family.'" (Matthew 13:57, NLV)

To hold truth in one's mind is to be burdened with the responsibility to share it. Yet, we're all certain we know what is true... And we cannot all be right.

Respect. Respect for one's self, and for others, is the basis of critical thinking. May we all speak what's true. And may we all listen.

Things like this always make me very nervous. The likelihood they'll be used often for nefarious purposes is probably (hopefully?) small, but I wonder if the times it would be appropriately used would outweigh the bad (or the potential for abuse at some time if an official decided to go after his/her political rivals).
