Work with your linux netbook with Chromecast as external monitor - in full HD resolution

I got some old netbook with 1024x768 and newer more powerful one with 1366x768. Unfortunately none of these has a digital video output. With a Chromecast it's easy:

xrandr --panning 1920x1080

Then run Chrome, install the Beta Google Cast app and there set the resolution to 1920x108 and the max bitrate to 5000 up to 10000. Now you can cast the full virtual desktop while on the notebook you just a panned part of the desk.

My good friend Marie has a bunch of fantastic cookbooks already published, and here's the next one in line. I'm lucky enough to eat the amazing things she makes on a semi-regular basis. You can have the next best thing: a great deal on the pre-order of her cookbook! Whether you're gluten-free or just trying to eat healthy, check this out.
Hey all,

Almost a year ago, I started to develop my new gluten-free cookbook, after successfully funding it on Kickstarter.

Well, I'm happy to report that the book is finished, off to the printer, and is set for an October 15 release date. Most of the wish list recipes that had been mentioned have been included - recipe development was a wild success! Everything is as good or BETTER than "the real thing" - in particular, I can't see using all-purpose wheat flour on cookies ever again, even when baking for non-gf friends.  The gf ones are just SO much better - taste AND texture!

When I started this book, I wanted it to not only be a great book for those who have to be gluten-free, but also a great resource for those wanting to try out new flours. With all of the education about Celiac and other gluten issues, alternative flours have never been as varied, affordable, or as easy to obtain as they are now - and SO many of them taste better and provide much better nutrition than wheat flour.

Among the highlights, I have tortillas that have the proper texture and don't rip, pitas that taste just like Jimmy Johns' bread, proper fish and chips (and other pub grub!), and amazing perogies. I am SUPER proud of the results! If you're on Facebook, be sure to check out some of the photos on the book's page,

The book will retail for $24.99, and is currently available for $19.99 as a pre-order discount until Oct 10. The pre-order discount is exclusive to my website, at

Thanks again for all of your inspiration and input when I got started!

I love how easy it is to add new software to a Linux system. I've got a 3rd Gen iPod Touch that I wanted to sync music to. Apple has made it deliberately difficult to do this without using their proprietary iTunes platform, but no worries, some clever folks have freed you from Apple's "Hi, can we sell you something today?" software.

Simply install ifuse and gtkpod (in +Ubuntu on my netbook, that's as easy as "sudo aptitude install gtkpod ifuse" in a shell window and waiting a moment). Presto! Faster than installing iTunes on either windows or MacOS, too.
