This years Christmas present to myself: Fancy soldering station WX2021. Things get so much easier with good tools.

My 2.7TiB box.

2736GiB of RAM rescued from being thrown away. It doesn't look like much in a moving box, but it will keep Lysator and Ctrl-C happy on the memory front for a couple of years I'd hope.

Now dumping the first PROM from LYS16. Marked "L Sin.20" I expect this one to contain one half of a sinus table, so it gets to be the guinea pig for testing. My EEPROM-programmer does support this chip (Intel 2716), but some addresses did not get consistently dumped.

So I borrowed an Arduino from +Peter Kjellström, wired it up and wrote my own dumper. It gives the chip ~400 times longer margin to stabilize the data pins than the data sheet says should be needed. That seems to have helped which is a relief, the prospect of rotting PROMs is scary. To be on the safe side the program verifies the dump 10 times.

The end result is that it takes 8s per byte to dump, but even at that speed I could complete the dumps over the weekend.

First package from China with PROM stuff came in. This covers most of the modern chips. Still waiting for some loose parts so I can build adapters for really old chips.

Spending some of my vacation documenting the guts of LYS-16. They are by now pretty rare. I only know of four in existence, two of which are in museums. Unknown if any of them are still working, and I'm not testing the two I have until I've made sure the ROMs are dumped.

Second print with my K8400. Turned out better than expected, and I hear the internet likes cats.
