Cops become experts on life, society, and humanity through experience and interaction. If you want solutions, life experience trumps fake expertise every time. Cops cannot fake it. They live or die by what they know and do every day.
“As law enforcement officers, we are rightly expected to recognize and honor the sanctity of life- all life. we do so every day in every corner of this country as we patrol and attempt to preserve order and the rule of law in some of the poorest and most decaying neighborhoods, wading through the festering... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/interesting-chicago/2016/07/what-cops-know-can-solve-some-of-americas-problems/" class="more-link">Read ...

Why waste time and emotional investment watching the nomination of two old rich white people with old rich white people problems, in addition to their weight, hair, skin care, clothing, and spouse issues?
The GOP is meeting in Cleveland this week. Their televised convention theme, “Entertainment Tonight,” resembles the shambolic life of the Bundy Family in, “Married With Children”. Republican voters nominated an old rich white guy with old rich white guy problems. A blustering, bumbling, babbling real estate hustler and reality show star to make America great again.... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/interesting-chicago/2016/07/who-cares-about-...

It appears Black Lives Matter does not like criticism and will not tolerate it. If criticized, they charge racism. Many in the news media pick up on it and the narrative is formed, critics are racist. Black Lives Matter does not like, want, or allow negative media coverage of their protests. If a report is... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/interesting-chicago/2016/07/when-it-comes-to-black-lives-matter-do-not-make-the-babies-cry/" class="more...

“Dear local and state government officials: Direct your police officers to stop pulling motorists over for minor violations. A traffic stop for an allegedly broken taillight was the precipitating event for the incident in which Philando Castile, a 32-year-old African-American man, was shot and killed by police Wednesday in the suburbs of St. Paul, Minn.... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/interesting-chicago/2016/07/an-open-letter-to-eric-zorn/...

The Chicago Tribune ran a recipe for Filipino style spaghetti, in conjunction with announcing the opening of two Jollibee restaurants in the Chicago area. Jollibee is the largest fast food chain in the Philippines. They currently have 32 locations in the United States. One of the ingredients in the recipe is banana ketchup. Banana ketchup or banana sauce is a popular condiment in the Philippines. Americans introduced ketchup to the islander...

I do not like cooking in hot weather. Just the thought of firing up the stove or oven makes me sweat like a fountain. [caption id=attachment_945 align=alignright width=300] Cold yogurt tomato soup with mint[/caption] We still have to eat. There are options. Salads, cold soups, sandwiches, crudites, or maybe plates with cold cuts, pickles, olives, and some good bread. You can make a meal out just using some ripe tomatoes, thin slice onion...

I am continually asked why I rarely write about things I experienced during three decades as a Chicago police officer. In short, expose the dirt. At times, especially now with the spotlight on police, it would be so easy to spill the beans. Tell tales out of school. Give the department or people and politicians... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/interesting-chicago/2016/07/dont-bite-the-hand-that-fed-you/" class="more-link">Read more »</a>

“…Attacks on police are an attack on all of us, and the rule of law that makes society possible… (President Obama). ‘Killing of police officers is an attack on society.’ ‘Attack on society as a whole.’ ‘Assault on society.’ “Rule of law.’ ‘Law and order.’ “When you kill a police officer…” The president’s words and... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/interesting-chicago/2016/07/when-you-kill-a-police-officer-words-matter/" class="more-link">Rea...

Cole slaw is one of those summer time staple side dishes. It is a great accompaniment to barbecue, grilled, and smoked meats. It is great on pulled pork sanguiches too. On a hot summer day it is a great salad meal on its own. It is cool, crunchy, and smooth. But, it gets boring. There is no rule that says you cannot spice coleslaw up. There is no rule that says you cannot sweeten it up. Sweet and spicy go together very well. Think goo...

Under Obama, the average number of police intentionally killed each year has fallen to its lowest level yet — an average of 62 deaths annually through 2015. If you include the 2016 police officer shootings year-to-date and project it out to a full year, that average of 62 deaths doesn’t change. (Christopher Ingraham/Washington Post via... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/interesting-chicago/2016/07/ignorant-and-uninformed-rhetoric-over-police-k...
