I'd love to bash Apple and Amazon, but the fact is that there are a shocking number of companies who still can't provide decent secure systems for their customers.

With basic information about this person hackers were able to get some more information from one company, then use that information to insert new profile information into the profile of another company, which in turn were used to verify an account holder, letting the hackers change passwords.

This password of course used for other things; his email, his laptop, his phone, his Twitter account.

Convenience over security can have really bad consequences (using same password for multiple accounts, not using 2-factor authentication when available).
