Just picked up one of the secret little jems in the film photography world, the Olympus mju-II or Stylus Epic.

I didn't have high hopes for an old 90's era plastic camera I found in an open market stall, but at $30 I was willing to give it a go. Electrics and everything worked out so it was time to load it with some film and put it to the test.

It lasted one day before randomly deciding to rewind the film half way through the roll. I reloaded it and got the shot counter back up by shooting blank frames with the lens covered. 2 hours later it did it again and rewound the film. I persisted and repeated the reload and getting back to the correct frame count.

As you can see from some of the images, things did not go entirely smoothly with the MJU, the majority of the shots are double exposures, and there are numerous light leaks (no doubt my fault) but all in all I really like this little camera. Even with it's quirks I'm sure it can be put to some good use again

The beautiful fishing village of Manarola, Cinque Terre

The Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. It is in the Liguria region of Italy, to the west of the city of La Spezia. "The Five Lands" is composed of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over the centuries, people have carefully built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the sea. Part of its charm is the lack of visible corporate development. Paths, trains and boats connect the villages, and cars cannot reach them from the outside.

The Trench Run IV

Here's another composite image created from my archive of HK architecture shots. This one took about 4 hours all up in photoshop, painstakingly edited at 1:1 with the wacom.

Have a great weekend all!

The Zenith

'We've the Zenith' Towers in Busan, South Korea.

A complex of 3 residential towers in the trendy Haeundae district of Busan, the Zenith is the second tallest building in Korea and it's unique design is drawn from the shape of flower petals. Not a bad place to swing a cat in.

After seeing the epic shots +Jimmy McIntyre achieved at this location, I thought I too would have a go at getting to the infamous rooftop helipad for a chance to grab a shot overlooking all of Haeundae Beach. Alas, I made it as far as the freight elevator on the ground floor before getting caught by a friendly young security guard with a keen eye for photographers up to no good. Next time Busan. Next time :)

Film VS Digital. Digital VS Film. Which is which?

One of these images is a 35mm scan of Kodak Portra 400. The other is a digital image with the VSCO Portra 400 preset applied.

Think you can tell the difference?

It's always great to see your images reaching outside the realm of the internet, be it as a physical print hung in a gallery or as a feature in a publication.

Pleased to annouce that I scored the front cover for this month's 'Travel + Leisure' magazine for the Latin American market.

I hope this inspires many more people to catch the travel bug and explore such awesome destinations such as Kyoto in Japan.
