Red Sox musings
Some Tuesday thoughts following an off-day and a Bruins clunker… …Felix Doubront starts tonight. BSI’s Patrick Green recently suggested sending Doubront to the bullpen, and I believe that’s where he’s going to end up. The only question is how long of a leash he has from John Farrell. Pundits often reference a 16-game stretch last […]

Division race becoming more interesting each week
The division standings widened this week as the Orioles and Rays went in distinctly different directions. The Yankees slipped from the top slot. The Red Sox kept pace at two games back. The Blue Jays stayed solidly in the hunt. Baltimore            20-15     – New York            19-17     1.5 Boston                 19-18     2.0 Toronto               18-20     3.5 Tampa Bay          […]

Now this would be an impact deal...
Last August I wrote a post regarding the Red Sox potentially trading for Giancarlo Stanton. In that post I argued that the Red Sox shouldn’t overpay for the young slugger from the Miami Marlins. In a sense, I’m still against giving up too much. But what if the Sox were to able acquire one or […]

When it comes to young players there are no guarantees they will develop into the players you think / hope they will. Some do. Some flame out. A Stanton in the hand is well worth any package of prospects they want for him, especially given the lackluster performance of the Red Sox outfielders so far.

Will #RedSox   heat up at home after back-to-back gritty wins in ChiTown?
The Boston Red Sox return to Fenway Park tonight to begin a weeklong home stand against two divisional foes: the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees. The Sox are at 7-9 after grinding out two consecutive wins at U.S Cellular Field in Chicago against the White Sox (8-8). The team lost the opener to […]

Looking for a sweep ...
The second leg of the Red Sox’ midcontinental road trip takes them to Target Field in Minneapolis for a three-game matchup with the Minnesota Twins (17-19). This is Boston’s first series with the Twins this year. The team went 4-3 last year against Minnesota, including a three-game sweep at Target Field in mid-May. The Red […]

My quick look around the best division in baseball (April 28-May 4)
At the end of five weeks in the 2014 season, the American League East division remains among the tightest races in Major League Baseball. As of May 5, the standings are: New York Yankees          16-14       - Baltimore Orioles            15-14     0.5 Boston Red Sox                15-17     2.0 Tampa Bay Rays              15-17     2.0 Toronto Blue Jays           […]

Hot bat for Holt ends Roberts stint in Beantown
The Boston Red Sox today have designated infielder Ryan Roberts for assignment. WEEI’s Alex Speier broke the news:   Ryan Roberts designated — Alex Speier (@alexspeier) April 18, 2014   The team also recalled utility man Brock Holt, who has been on a hot streak at Triple-A Pawtucket. Roberts was signed April 7 to […]

Tight, competitive division
As of today, April 14, mere 2 games separate teams from the top to the bottom of the American League East — the narrowest gap in any division. The Tampa Bay Rays (7-6) remain atop leading the division after Week 2, posting a 3-3 record for the week. They dropped two of three games in […]
