Beautiful sunrise this morning!  I couldn't wait to get off the highway so I could take a snapshot of this--a great way to start Friday off.
If you look carefully, you'll see some snow trying to make it to the surface.

After seeing a piece in Businessweek saying "Carnitas is temporarily off the menu at about one-third of Chipotle restaurants, a decision made Wednesday after the company discovered an unnamed supplier had violated its animal welfare policies." I thought I'd check to see if there were any new videos from Chipotle, and discovered this one.
A lot of us in America have become comfortable with the industrialization of our food supply, Chipotle has done a great job of pointing to a better way.
I applaud them.

Hugh Herr: The new bionics that let us run, climb and dance #TED : http://on.ted.com/i0eEL
Hugh Herr is building the next generation of bionic limbs, robotic prosthetics inspired by nature's own designs. Herr lost both legs in a climbing accident 30 years ago; now, as the head of the MIT Media Lab’s Biomechatronics group, he shows his incredible technology in a talk that's both technical and deeply personal — with the help of ballroom dancer Adrianne Haslet-Davis, who lost her left leg in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, and performs ...

Well worth the read.

Dr. Levine refutes a lot of the misinformation that is circulating about Ebola and shines a light on the real causes of the health problems in sub-Saharan Africa.

Hard to believe, now that we have snow on the ground here in Minneapolis, that the autumn colors were at their peak just a few weeks ago.
Enjoy this short picture story!

Minneapolis has 91 new restaurant openings so far this year!  The Star Tribune offers an interactive map.
Take note you out of town foodies; winter hasn't arrived yet here (it's still safe to visit w/o freezing your tush)!

I remember listening to this bit on one of Robin's comedy albums (yes, that carbon dates me!).  A real treat to watch the performance.
This is the genius of Robin Williams: "You got be crazy!"  "There's no way any government in the world can handle madness!"

Living in the Twin Cities for past 30 years, grew up in Chicago, avid motorcyclist
Introduction
Grew up in Downers Grove, IL (Chicago suburb). Went to Denison University in Ohio. During the 70s I worked for the Florsheim Company, managing and opening stores in Chicago, Tampa, Dallas, and St Louis areas.

In the early 80s I married Pattie Martin (we met at Florsheim), moved to Minneapolis, started a family and transitioned to sales of information technology.

As our two boys grew up, we got involved in sports, and Boy Scouts.  During the boys' high school years we hosted several exchange students (2 each from Sweden and Japan), which led to both sons' interest in visiting Japan and learning the language.

The interest in Japanese travel and culture led to my joining the board of directors of the Bloomington Sister City Organization, which manages a cultural relationship with Izumi City, a suburb of Osaka.

Throughout all of the above my love of motorcycle touring (read "having fun in the twisties") has endured. Just transitioned (2013) to a 3 wheeler (Can Am Spyder) after owning BMW 'sport touring' bikes for several decades.  Check us out riding two-up to Yellowstone as Pattie and I did 2 years ago.

Lately we've been focusing our attention on where (and how) to retire.  At present (summer '13) we're thinking that we'll try living in different places around the globe until we find some place to settle long term.

Terrific experience purchasing our Honda Fit at Hopkins Honda. It helped immensely to have a price negotiated in advance from Consumer Reports (Costco & Sams have programs too). We took a couple of test drives, then scheduled time with the finance guy. We were in and out in less than an hour, loved that! Manny treated us very well and was a big part of why my experience was so pleasant.
