I went for a drive and several walks with my friend Jana in the Columbia Gorge, during and after some of the heaviest rain in the region's history. All the waterfalls were in full effect! There was even a spontaneous waterfall near Shepperd's Dell, that I don't think is usually there.

Megyn Kelly skewered for ignoring the Voting Rights Act on its 50th anniversary, in the GOP debate. Ha! Well said, Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

I've withdrawn from the election for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. I'm happy with several of the other candidates; here's more about my reasons, and the names of two (so far) candidates I endorse: http://wikistrategies.net/board-election-update/ (Also, I've preserved my candidate statement and answers to questions from voters, here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Peteforsyth/2015_board_election_Peteforsyth_answers )
Before I chose to run for a seat on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees, I spoke with several trusted colleagues. I had not planned on running; but as I watched candidates release their opening statements, I was dismayed to see how few of them mentioned community dynamics and good ...

I am running for the Wikimedia Foundation's Board of Trustees. We need a WMF that can work with its community. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/Board_elections/2015/Candidates#Pete_Forsyth_.28Peteforsyth.29
The Funds Dissemination Committee elections have started. Votes will be accepted until 23:59 10 May 2015 (UTC). Translation of candidate statements for Board, FDC and FDC Ombudsperson elections is continuing. Voters are also still invited to submit questions for the candidates to answer, ...

The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees elections are over -- and three of my top picks won! This is an important moment for Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects. One of the clearest differences among the candidates was around how to best engage the volunteer community in governance issues. I am delighted to see three new trustees who clearly opposed the disastrous rollout of the Superprotect feature, and who bring strong expertise in working effectively with the many Wikimedia volunteers. Congratulations to Dariusz Jemielniak, James Heilman, and Denny Vrandečić!
Today, the results of the 2015 Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) board of trustees election were announced. 5167 people voted, making this the highest turnout in any Wikimedia election to date. The winners — Dariusz Jemielniak, James Heilman, and Denny Vrandečić — were three of the top four I endorsed.

Way to go!  Congrats for your bit in making this happen (don't think that your entering a candidacy, then retracting if for the reasons you stated, was not significant....)

Finally built the second bench I've been craving on the front porch. Still needs a back railing and some tidying up, but it was good enough for dinner for two tonight!
