The secret to being #healthy in old age:

Sir Muir Gray, former Chief Knowledge Officer to the National Health Service and fitness guru Diana Moran aka 'The Green Goddess' share sound sound advice on how to prevent health issues in later life. And according to them, you need to start implementing these measures in your thirties. Diana says,"It's a bit like an insurance policy, the more you put in...the more there is to pull on when bad things happen" and Sir Muir Gray says, "It's not about life extension, it's about health span not life span.... the aim is not to live forever...but to be as fit as possible, as able as possible, as long as possible".

Haha, indeed. But I guess really, the point of it is, it's only obvious if you actually think about it. When we're young, few of us (including yours truly) do. The insurance analogy is a good one, too. Because insurance isn't always worth it. So we think, "well I can drink until I hear from my liver".

"Disconnecting from digital technologies is like sticking our heads in the sand. It prevents us from asking how technologies are changing our lives in particular ways and whether it is for the better. It also stops us from reclaiming these technologies and re-purposing them for different goals and values."

Now this is more like it. I hate tech-blaming "only allowing organic wooden paleo-toys for my kids" stories.

Overweight? It 'reduces dementia risk' - yeah who says human body is easy to understand, huh?

#aging
Being overweight cuts the risk of dementia, while underweight people face the highest risk, according to a study involving nearly two million Britons.

'NZ PM apologises for hair-pulling' - short but intriguing headline while ✈ cruising at 38,000 feet.

I don't want the full story now, spoils the mystery!

Where bogus science can be fatal: in court.
Forensic hair matches were overstated in many cases heard before 2000, including those of 32 defendants sentenced to death, the FBI and the Justice Department acknowledged after a review.

Here's where you want to be your 1 year old startup:

Q.

So you go out and raise money and you don’t have to tell the investors what it’s for?

A.

Nope. They want to own some of the company, and they believe it will be worth more in the future. And that’s it.

Perry, they must have combined the three elements someone told me about 40 years ago in Los Angeles: a scientist (today, a program architect), a marketer and a financials person.

An awesome map of invisible stuff millions of light years away. Mind. Blown.
A huge effort to make a map of dark matter, the invisible stuff holding galaxies in place across the cosmos, releases its first batch of results.

"The nation’s wealth is not the product of the genius of a few canny entrepreneurs." - An answer to those belittling the role of the state.

If governments had taken a hands-on approach to industrial development the UK wouldn’t have suffered the huge loss of secure jobs we’ve seen in recent years
