Project Highlight: Banco de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires
http://bit.ly/2c63Ze7

The headquarters of the Banco de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires bears the signature of the London architect, Norman Foster. The four floors of the prestigious office complex in the Parque Patricios district are covered by a 9,000 m² undulating roof structure. Slender circular columns in generous grid dimensions of 16 m x 24 m seem to allow the filigree appearance of the architectural concrete construction to float in the air at a height of over 20 m.

A dimensionally-accurate design, flawless architectural concrete quality and high working operations speed – in order to bring these three essential requirements into line during construction, project engineers from PERI Argentina have developed a customized formwork and scaffolding concept. The longitudinally-moved table solution is positioned on an intermediate platform and facilitates fast cycle sequences for constructing the 16 m long casting segments across the entire width of the structure.

On the bicycle from Germany to Warsaw – The PERI sports team has covered an impressive distance!

Also this year, our PERI cycling team has been full of vim and vigor again and covered a distance of 520 km from Görlitz in Germany to Warsaw in Poland in only three days. The destination of the 31 male and female cyclists was the PERI site in Warsaw, where they visited their Polish colleagues. A city tour and the visit to the Warsaw FlySpot completed the trip, before they took the bus to go back to Germany the next day.

Six cyclists had even started earlier than the rest of the group, namely from PERI headquarters in Weissenhorn, and they covered a total distance of 1,200 km. Respect!

A blog had been created particularly for this and so all family members and friends were able to follow the events almost ”live“. Next year, there will be the ten-year anniversary tour to Milan in Italy, and the cyclists are already looking forward to this!

New site for PERI in Belgium

PERI Belgium was founded in 1979 and had been located in Londerzeel since then. Due to the growing demand for formwork and scaffolding over recent years and the limited space available at the old site, it became mandatory to relocate the company. This is the reason why PERI moved to the city of Boom in March 2016. The new premises comprise 28,500 m² and host a rental and new material warehouse, an office building, a hall for the cleaning and repair of formwork material and a panel warehouse.

“We would like to offer our customers the best solution through high-quality products and services and thus to further strengthen our market position“, Thomas Imbacher (PERI Management Board Germany and Central Europe).

Expansion of the Panama Canal: The largest individual order in the PERI history had finally been completed!

PERI delivered a total of 1,100 containers packed with formwork and scaffolding materials to Panama. In addition, PERI engineers provided continuous on-site support in order to, among other things, ensure optimal coordination of material requirements to match respective project requirements at all times throughout the construction.

Due to its dimensions and complexity, the project presented huge challenges in terms of know-how, logistics and construction site support. During the realization of this gigantic project, the close, constructive cooperation of various PERI subsidiaries in Spain, Panama as well as the headquarters in Weissenhorn in southern Germany was of particular importance. This transnational cooperation involving a diverse team of engineers, logisticians and other specialists contributed significantly to the project's success.

Since the end of June 2016, large container ships can now also pass through the around 80 km long Panama Canal which connects the Pacific with the Atlantic.
The expansion of the second most important waterway in the world is finished. Since the end of June 2016, large container ships can now also pass through the around 80 km long Panama Canal which connects the Pacific with the Atlantic. For PERI, it meant that the largest individual order in the 47-year history of the company had finally been completed.

Project Update from Jordan: Al Ghafar Bridge in Jordan

Construction is underway on the Al Ghafar bridge, Jordan. This is a vital part of the ring road around the northern city of Irbid. This technically challenging project has been made possible through the support of PERI. The project consists of two abutments and 7 piers spanned at 34 m. Each pier contains two columns with heights up to 71 m.

The main challenge in this project was the pier-head shuttering, especially at such heights. The shutter covered 26 m in one direction and 3 m in the other direction. The formwork and shoring have been designed to take the load of a 2 m deep beam on top of the 2 piers. The requirements were to provide a climbing system with wall formwork shutter for the piers and a solution for the pier head beam formwork between the two columns of each pier.

SB frames were used in the horizontal position to support the formwork and load of the pier head beam. A distance of 8 m between the two columns was bridged by SB frames and RCS walers to transfer the loads safely and easily. All design drawings and calculations were made in the PERI headquarters in Weissenhorn, Germany.

A high level of engineering and aftersales service are essential to the success of the project. The solution for the pier head was very effective as PERI took into consideration both the technical and safety aspects, to ensure a safe working environment for the workers. The simple use of the CB climbing system with only one crane lift helped to save time and effort.

The following PERI systems are used:
- VARIO GT 24 formwork
- CB climbing formwork
- SB brace frame
- PERI UP Flex Shoring towers
- PERI UP Rosett Stair Alu 64
- LIWA panel formwork

Generali Tower, Italy – Twisted highrise architecture from Zaha Hadid http://bit.ly/2aZ5RCc

The 170 m high office tower in Milan elegantly winds its way upwards and bears the signature of Zaha Hadid.

The concrete shell of the striking Generali Towers was completed in April 2016 – after a construction phase of only 17 months. With the help of project-specific PERI formwork operations, it was possible to finish ahead of the originally planned schedule by a full 3 months. This was because our formwork and scaffolding specialists developed an execution solution with consistently safe and thereby fast operating sequences. In spite of the complicated building geometry, the standard storeys could be realized in continuous weekly cycles.

PERI systems in use:

- RCS Rail Climbing System
- ACS Self-Climbing System
- CB Climbing Formwork
- RCS MP Material Platform
- TRIO Panel Formwork
- VARIO GT 24 Girder Wall Formwork
- SKYDECK Panelized Slab Formwork
- PROKIT EP 110 Fall Protection

Project Highlight: Dome Restoration Charles Church in Vienna, Austria http://bit.ly/2a9RTMw

The Charles Church in Vienna is a popular tourist destination which has been renovated in stages during term time since 2002. For this, PERI designed a working platform as well as a visitors´ gallery.

Compared to normal construction operations, PERI had to fulfil considerably higher requirements regarding stairs, landings and platforms that were to be used by the general public: designed according to fire protection classification, up to 10 times more horizontal guardrail loads as well measures and design details which guaranteed the safety of all visitors.

A unique feature in scaffold construction was the working platform for the restoration team. Consisting of PERI UP Rosett individual components, it was assembled as a balanced cantilever structure with a subspan fitted afterwards. Special PERI wall supports meant that support scaffolding was not required. As a result, visitors entering the church were not immediately aware that fully equipped renovation facilities had been installed at a height of 34 m.
