Reading this article by Bruce Irving in PMQ Magazine.

So look, he makes good points but he makes them in a context not fitting reality.

Pegasus Ventures suggests a different approach. Build a structured foray into social media. Learn it gradually but develop habits.

Bruce misses the reality thinking people busy running restaurants, or any other small business, suddenly begin to spend growing volumes of time learning each social media platform.

Not buying it. Pegasus Ventures believes jumping in with a steady stream of posts while giving attention to responses from customers better gets the small business owner started in social media.

Experiencing success will reinforce the effort on its own. So again, we agree with his overall points but with 10 years working with small business owners on web presence we aren't seeing his really getting the people he is targeting with his article. Pegasus Ventures comes at this from a different point of view we think helps build a habit not taking up massive volumes of time. As owners see the process bring in dollars they'll get it, do more and grow increasingly savvy about social media.

A former client who pulls this kind of stunt, as well. One day we get the call to set up pages on their website to allow staff to report the actual dollars collected at night so they could keep track of the actual numbers they'd tell staff to put on the books.

Mentioned to the customer getting caught could be a problem and he bragged his brother owned a Subway restaurant doing the same thing.

Needless to say this is an easy catch for IRS. The biggest impact of stunts like this is driving up food cost and alcohol costs well beyond the norm.

One doesn't like losing customers but this one decided to work with someone more supportive of what they were doing. Kind of prefer to be drawn into someone's conspiracy to fool the IRS.
