Bygone Lady Card Teams
Above is the GBB team from '81. Below is softball in '97. From Facebook posts, we see that these women often have daughters who follow in their footsteps.

I'm looking through the files and come across this: Citizen Bee? Does anyone remember if it went on for more than one year? Funny how things to do come and go over the years.

Mock Elections: 40 Years Apart
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Students have always loved guessing what the future holds. The pics above and below are from 1971...  ...and these are from 2011. Still guessing!

Spring & Sports
Since the OHS basketball team did so well this year, we thought we'd look both forward and back. Here are some spring sports teams (looking forward to the day when the snow is GONE) from the past. Above is boys' track 1976. Below is 1992.

New Territory
Last week we told you about the Cardinal Boys' Basketball team winning Districts, which hadn't happened since 1989. This week we're announcing something that has NEVER happened before. Our boys won the regional title and will advance tomorrow night (Tuesday...

Benchmarks and Benches
Book #1 I looked up the word benchmark but I didn't learn much. It's a combination of bench + mark, and it represents a new standard. (So what's the bench got to do with it?  Do we sit down and rest when we reach a point where we've done something really co...

She's NOT Going to Like It
Earlier this year, we became the proud owners of a new camper. The plan is to do some traveling in the months to come, but we struggled with the problem of what to do with Old Cat. As our only remaining pet, she's become a bit of an obsession with us, and w...

How Do You Choose What to Read Next?
Anyone who reads knows there is a huge industry out there trying to grab your attention. Big publishers wave their "golden" writers in front of your face with words like "gripping" and "must-read." Small presses try to get readers to their niche market by p...

Mystery + Something Else
Releasing May 30, 2016 Since E. A. Poe wrote the first mystery, the genre has been popular with readers. Though most of us will never deal with murder and wouldn't want to, we like peering over someone's shoulder as he or she pokes into a crime, unearthing ...

Pet Adjustments
They're not very big, and they have no words to tell us what they want, but we make all sorts of adjustments for our furry little friends. Why? Because we love them, and maybe a little bit because they'll get us if we don't. Before: "Not yet happy w/arrange...

After I Write "The End"
This is the final cover for the 4th Sleuth Sisters mystery. It's still a way off, probably May, but it's nice to have something to show to readers. When an author is traditionally published, she gets some say in a cover but not much. A lot depends on the pu...

Mystery Author: "Strong Women, Great Stories."
Introduction
I write three series: The Loser Mysteries, The Dead Detective Mysteries & the Simon & Elizabeth (Tudor) Mysteries as well as stand-alones that offer readers "Strong Women, Great Stories."
These days I also answer to Maggie Pill, who writes a cozy sleuth series. Maggie is a lot like Peg, just younger, cooler, and funnier.
Bragging rights
I'm the only person at OHS who ever set the stage on fire.
