When asked the simple question “what makes you stand out,” do you have an answer?

Thoughts from +Helen Ryan
My first LinkedIn blog post. Thanks to +Peg Fitzpatrick for inadvertently inspiring me to actually jump on this. I am trying to keep up with her...
Looking at your friends, acquaintances and even co-workers it’s easy to see what makes each and every one of them unique. As an outsider, their passions, skills and talents are easy for you to spot.

+Brandon Couch Thank you. It's all about baby steps with confidence in our skills (our passion we seem to have nailed down and we've "got that one!.") I still struggle, too.

Awesome Ways to Build your Google+ Business Page

One tip: Post Updates and Content Regularly to Stay In the Streams of Your Followers

"By posting regularly, you will stay at the tops of your users’ minds.

It goes without saying that it’s important to update your Google Plus page on a regular basis. It will take some time before your social media activity starts to gain traction, but many small businesses abandon their social profiles, simply because they don’t see any tangible return on investment. By updating your content and profile regularly, you will be staying fresh in the minds of your users; and when they get around to needing your services, you will be top of mind.”

How to Get a YES for Outsourcing Your Content
"You know that content with context is how to drive targeted, profitable traffic to your business. You need it. You want it.  You know that it’ll free up your time so that you can spend it on the more important parts of your work."

Here’s how to get outsourced content approved in your budget:

Look at creative content as an investment

"Any money you spend on your content creates a tremendous return on investment. Because the content on your website is owned media. It’s an investment that will constantly give you a return, possibly for years down the line.

When you create and distribute relevant, valuable content, you attract and engage a clearly defined targeted audience. You eventually get more business. And drive sales. Lots of it."

Lens Blur in the NEW Google Camera App
So exciting!

From Google Play:
Google Camera snaps quick and easy photos and videos, and has creative picture modes like Photo Sphere, Lens Blur and Panorama.
• Photo Spheres for immersive 360º views
• Lens Blur mode for SLR-like photos with shallow depth of field
• Panorama mode with high resolution
• 100% viewfinder for getting the maximum resolution from the sensor (no dropped pixels)
• Updated UI that gets out of your way and is centered on an extra large capture button
• Works on phones and tablets running Android 4.4+ KitKat

Lens Blur in the new Google Camera app
Posted by Carlos Hernández, Software Engineer

One of the biggest advantages of SLR cameras ( over camera phones is the ability to achieve shallow depth of field effects (also known as bokeh,, which makes the object of interest "pop" by bringing the foreground into focus and de-emphasizing the background.

Achieving this optical effect has traditionally required a big lens and aperture, and therefore hasn’t been possible using the camera on your mobile phone or tablet. That all changes with Lens Blur, a new mode in the Google Camera app (

Lens Blur  replaces the need for a large optical system with computer vision algorithms and optimization techniques that are run entirely on the mobile device, simulating a larger lens and aperture in order to creating a 3D model of the world.

To learn more about the algorithms and optimization that makes Lens Blur  possible, head over to the Google Research Blog, linked below. We hope you have fun with your bokeh experiments!

I've only had a quick test with the blur so far and it didn't work as well as others who have been flooding g+ with photos.
I guess I need to pick a more dominant item for it to stand out more than it currently is.

I am liking the update overall though :)

Be a baker, not an eater (Advice from +Guy Kawasaki)
I believe there's plenty of great things to go around for everyone.

A baker believes they can always make more pie and that the pie won’t run out. Their generous, giving spirit helps others bake their own pie and even shares their pie. If you can always make more, you have an endless supply of pie. No need to be selfish. Being a baker allows you to grow and enrich other’s lives as you share your ideas.

Michael Hyatt calls this scarcity vs. abundance. “One leads to success, joy and fulfillment, while the other leads to failure, fear and discontent.” Having an abundant mentality allows you to be optimistic about your life while being an eater is a negative, smaller view of the world.

Baker traits: generous, optimistic, and open
Eater traits: greedy, limited, and negative

I chose to be a baker. I feel there's plenty of awesomeness for everyone. Which do you choose?

These also apply to press releases, headlines at the top of your website’s homepage and titles of White papers, ebooks and YouTube videos.
• They’re vague.
• They’re too short.
• There’s no promise of a benefit.
• They’re confusing
