We are thinking of buying a place in France, e.g., this one: http://www.frenchestateagents.com/french-property-for-sale/view/49214MNO81/house-for-sale-in-cordes-tarn-midi-pyrenees-france and would be very interested in views - positives/negatives.

I've had several run-ins with this sort of thing Brian, but they're all been using Direct Debit (including our AA recovery) - which is easy to deal with: just log in to the bank account and cancel it.

However, if they're using an automatic credit card debit, what alternative do you have - cancel the card, or contact the business concerned.  You are absolutely correct, the bastards should not only provide clear HOW TO CANCEL instructions, but they should also make that as painless as possible - a unique hyperlink could do it.
Like many concerned parents, when my daughter started driving, I took out breakdown cover with the UK's biggest, and usually trusted provider the AA. I did so with my credit card. As renewal comes close, I decided to go with ...

Been reading Matt Nicholson's http://www.amazon.co.uk/When-Computing-Got-Personal-computer-ebook/dp/B00IANWO62 and loving it (review to appear soon); so much so that I've just had to re-watch Micro Men.

I have a new favourite quote -  'Confidence is often the application of ignorance rather than knowledge - over confidence almost certainly so'. Inspired by "Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge"

The remains of computers used to store top-secret documents leaked by the NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, which were symbolically destroyed by Guardian editors while being watched by GCHQ representatives, are to be displayed at the V&A. Although I query whether it's the remains of a MacBook A...

Not new, old in fact, but it still makes me chuckle!

It might be old, but it's still great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaPepCVepCg

The thing that I find a bit annoying is that I'm often talked to like I'm an idiot by youngsters - by for example someone at PC World (which is rather ironic!).

I've also found that although they know a lot about the latest gadgets; the latest specs; and technology services, these same youngsters usually have no clue -- whatsoever -- as to how these things work - or even how they probably work.
Take that 6-7 year olds! According to the news, the communications watchdog Ofcom has told us that 'the average six-year-old child understands more about digital technology than a 45-year-old adult.' (To be precise, that quot...

This is true. I find the best thing is not to go into PC World.

Super manic in Harrogate on this wet Friday evening: Le Tour is in town and to quote a popular song lyric, "I'm so excited"!

Great food, but in reading the other reviews, I would have to add that it was on a quiet day - so can't really comment on the service when busy. Nice deli/come veg shop out the back - yummy local veg etc.

Been twice, variable ... first time the food was great, although after we'd ordered we heard another couple being offered some different dishes, e.g., a slice of each of the Sunday roast meats. Second visit, we had the beef again - it was superb first time, and very much not so this time. Doubt we'll go back again.

Very good hardware shop - like in the good old days. A bit pricey compared to some other places but still would recommend.

Dirty, sticky tables. Plus we went for a paid event in the cellar (paid on the door) just to find that there was no where to sit; left after 10 minutes with no offer of refund.

Brilliant place - super friendly people, and a place where we've picked-up some real bargins since we moved here in 2011.

Been there a few times; always great food, and very friendly staff. Plus, it's nice to be able to see the barges on the canal to have a walk along the footpath.
