Some journos seem to be a little perturbed at the audacity of MasterCard, sponsors of tonight's Brit Awards. Apparently they want some mentions of the brand in a tweet or two plus a hashtag and link to a website in return for a limo ride to the event and, no doubt, lashings of booze, ...

Socially Awesome Sysadmin Awards 2014 Launch

Recognising the Sysadmins:
There’s nothing like a bit of recognition to make you feel like your job is worthwhile. All too often, systems administrators are at best ignored, at worst blamed for the tangles IT users get themselves in when overconfidence infuses their mousecraft.

Well it stops here.

Because Melbourne Server Hosting has launched Socially Awesome: the monthly granting of gifts and kudos to sysadmins who have excelled in their social outreach through the medium of Twitter. They’re doing their peers proud by showing the human side of their trade. Why not follow one today?

Want to know more? Go to the Socially Awesome page and find out what it’s all about – and meet January’s lucky winners.

The systems administrator. The backbone of any multi-employee company, ensuring staff have access to their files, their network, their applications, their Facebook. Without them we'd pretty soon realise that the digital revolution hasn't been like a lion prowling the analogue savannah, ...

Having visited other Indian cuisines in Manchester, Akbar's doesn't stand out as a memorable meal. Our office went for a meal there and ended up getting forced onto a table in the corner with no way to get in or out of seats. We didn't receive a menu for 15 minutes and the service was poor. Generally the food was okay but not the best Indian I have tried.

Cask have a great selection of beers and are one of the few pubs in Manchester that provide board games for you to enjoy while you drink. Another bonus is the chance to buy fish and chips from the chippy next door and eat them in Cask! Beer and a chippy, what more do you need?

Hey Little Cupcake is hidden away in the streets surrounding Spinningfields but is a must try pottering around Manchester. With a wide selection of cupcakes available as well as Gluten free for those coeliacs, you cant go wrong on your search for a cupcake by going to Hey Little Cupcake. The staff are friendly and don't forget to pick up a membership card for free cake... yum

Thank you Luck Lust Liquor and Burn for bringing fantastic burritos to the Northern Quarter! The venue is modern and styled well, the food portions are great and offer a wide variation in terms of fish, burritos to the classic almost famous burgers. If you fancy a tasty burrito and you are willing to pay around £10 then give this place a go, it wont let you down!

With the Banyan Tree situated just around the corner from my office, this is easily the best place to go when you're after a quick bite or meeting with a client. The music isn't too loud and the service is always great, bringing food out to you without the long wait. The Banyan Beer and Cider is cheap and worth trying when you order the well renowned chicken strips!

Red's True Barbecue is situated in a great location just off to the side of Albert Square. The restaurant is decorated well and offers a unique styling in comparison to your typical food joint. You will be welcomed and shown to your seats by the friendly staff in here and guided through the menu which is also supplied with a bible styled booklet detailing the drinks available. The food is presented well and the flavours are great. I highly recommend to anyone to try at least once.

Working on an art project or looking to follow your passion? Fred Aldous has everything you'd need to get started. The selection is great and the staff really know their stuff, although price is quite high due to being one of the only places in Manchester to provide this service.
