I'm thrilled to report that David Page has won the ASJA prize for best dramatic narrative of 2014 for his 12,000 word, four part, first hand account, edited by me and published in TakePart, of the first medical relief team to arrive in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan
Could a ragtag group of doctors from California—the first medical team to arrive in the area hit hardest by the giant typhoon in the Philippines—be a model for better disaster relief?

From Florida to California, wild animals are invading cities—and humans are invading wildlife habitat—like never before. What are they trying to tell us? (And how friendly is that crocodile?)

TakePart's Steve Friess investigates registries of sexual offenders nationwide and finds them riddled with errors http://www.takepart.com/feature/2015/04/17/errors-sexual-offender-registries?cmpid=pt
Estimates of the number of errors run into the tens of thousands. One man—and pretty much only one man—is trying to fix them.

Fun read and cool original video in this new TakePart feature by Mike Kessler on what the proposed FAA rules mean for our drone-laden future  #dronevideo   #technews
People are coming up with new ways to use drones practically every day. Can FAA rules accommodate them all?

Think those "certified #sustainable  forest product" labels mean something? The corpse of Edwin Chota would like to argue that point. #sustainabledesign   #sustainabledevelopment   #rainforest
Defense of the Amazon has been left to its vulnerable inhabitants. Now illegal logging is turning a climate threat into a human rights crisis.

Maybe it was my mistake for getting sushi on a Sunday (when the fish market is closed), but the cuts of meat in my nigiri sushi were of low-quality. Nice people however and fast service (though the place was basically empty).
