We got the chance to talk to some of the core developers of Hylang, which is a Lisp dialect that runs on the Python VM! We talked about how it got started, how it works and why you should try it. Of particular interest is our discussion about using Hylang to backport language features, or create entirely new ones due to the power of Lisp and the Python AST (Abstract Syntax Tree). If you need to level up your Lisp knowledge, they gave us a great list of references to help out.

I love this! :D
Since today, +Tanglu builds are handled by  #debile  , a brand-new build system for Debian packages, which we extended to work with Tanglu and to be able to build a full +Debian archive.
We will slowly add more build slaves to the system, and there are some more changes queued, so that stuff is not stable right now - but I expect it to be fully working this weekend, so we might be able to do a large-scale testrun this weekend with maybe 400 new package builds.
Debile also offers us a nice way to do additional QA on packages, like lintian checks, and it beats our previous Jenkins-based[1] solution in speed and maintainability.
Debian will later use Debile for a full archive rebuild using clang as well :-)
Exciting stuff! There will of course be a "real" announcement on the mailinglists, as soon as this gets fully stable and we open the Debian merge window for Tanglu 2.
Kudos to +Paul Tagliamonte for starting Debile and helping us to make use of it (and merge changes back).
You can find buildlogs from Tanglu here (webui will follow):
Debile source-code is here:;a=summary

[1]: We still use Jenkins, but for other stuff now - it will soon do automatic live-cd builds and perform some "special" tasks (like automatic source-package patching or test-building of auto-merged security updates from Debian)

Seriously, what the fuck. Does Lenovo not understand how many free software hackers get Lenovo just because they're generally friendly to GNU/Linux? Fucking hell. Time to switch to Dell.
For indexing and search purposes, both +Theodore Ts'o and I got a lenovo thinkpad T540p, and when we booted from a linux drive as the main drive inside the laptop, it bricked the laptop by only showing
"To interrupt normal startup, press Enter?" after power on.
From there, no way to get the bios, no way to get past this screen even after putting back the original windows8 drive that came with the laptop.
Ted tried to removing the cmos battery but it didn't reset/fix the board, it had to be replaced. We think something, likely grub2 but hard to say for sure, corrupted the bios/firmware in a way that isn't reset by power cycle or removing the battery (it's not the linux kernel because it never booted on my laptop, and for Ted he was able to boot it from a secondary drive).

Ted had his motherboard serviced, the laptop booted again, and when he put his drive back carefully and booted from it, it bricked the new motherboard.
He did get linux to boot from a secondary drive before that happened, I didn't because I put my drive directly in the main bay. As of right now, we both have a bricked T540p.

I haven't gotten my laptop back yet, we're not sure what causes this, but it could be grub2 that is causing a MB bug (I believe neither of us got the grub2 boot screen).
This is worrisome. I'll +Tejun Heo to pass the word for now and will update this when we know more (or Ted likely will too).
