All of creation needs men to be men. If a male doesn’t accept his design to be a man, bad things happen.

Essentially this is what  happens in Genesis 3. Sin entered the world because of Adam’s passivity. Adam had the responsibility to protect his wife’s integrity. Instead he allowed Eve to tempted by the serpent. Sin entered the world because Adam did not accept his responsibility as a man.

We live in a world gone wrong.

Not only does the News confirm this reality, but we also feel it intensely in our guts. We know, without being told, that things are not what they should be.

One of the reasons that I am convinced that Christianity is true is because it doesn’t candy coat the reality that the world is full of evil. Scripture provides the reason why the world has gone wrong. The good world that God created has been corrupted, and Satan has been at the helm. Our world, the universe that we live in, is the stage of Satan’s rebellion against God.

You and I are trapped in a great cosmic war. This is the reality of our days, and if we stop to think about it for a moment, we will realize that it explains a great many things. The reason all those bad things happen is because Satan is actively at war against God, trying his best to corrupt every inch of God’s wonderful work.

I used to follow Rebecca St. James on Facebook. Besides being a well known Christian singer, Rebecca St. James has also been a loud voice in the True Love Waits campaign. Being single for much of her life, before getting married in April of 2011, added credibility to her message.

One thing about being a celebrity, even a minor one like Rebecca St. James, is that people think they know you because they have had glimpses of your life through articles, interviews, and performances. The result is that some guys would fall in love with the image of Rebecca they had created in their minds. They would write their declarations of love for her on her Facebook page.

When I read these public declarations of love I couldn’t help but think about a scene from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. In the scene Aragorn, the heir to the throne of Gondor prepares to take a perilous journey under the mountain to enlist the help of the army that resides there.

Use this as your profile picture this weekend and remind the world that our standard for love is the sacrificial love God has given to us through Jesus Christ.

According to the Bible there are two ways we can live our lives. We can live our lives guided by the flesh or we can be guided by the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16-26). The apostle Paul made it clear that if our flesh is in control then sexual immorality will be a part of our lives. On the other hand, when the Holy Spirit is our guide, we will keep sex scared.

When the Bible talks about flesh, it is not just talking about our physical desires, but also the corrupted world system that we are under. This is why sex seems to be everywhere, and this constant exposure to sex causes us to forget God’s intended place for sex in our lives. Sex, the way God designed it, is a wonderful blessing. When sex is brought outside of God’s design it becomes a source of complication and pain.

Followers of Jesus need to remember what the writer of Hebrews wrote: Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous (Hebrews 13:4; ESV). If we are going to hold marriage in honor then we need to reorder our thoughts and desires. This requires that we break from the accepted cultural standards of sex and return to God’s standards. In other words we can no longer allow our flesh to guide our sexuality.
