"AXA asked 400 SME directors to score their accountants, lawyers, insurers, bank, energy provider and local council in terms of how transparent they are in their dealings with them.

The results showed: 1 My accountants (90%); 2 My lawyers (84%); 3 My insurer (75%); 4 My bank (73%); 5 My energy provider (65%); 6 My local council (59%)."

"To help accounting professionals detect fraud, we’ve listed the Top 10 red flag warning signs of fraud below. While one of these may not necessarily be cause for concern, the presence of two or more should raise suspicion and may require a more in-depth examination".

Whistleblowing resource page from +EthicalSystems.
Whistle blowing refers to any time that a member of an organization (or a former member) tells someone else about an illegal or immoral practice, if the telling is done in the hope that someone will do something to change the practice. In the great majority of cases, employees tell someone ...

Study indicates auditor rotation may have detrimental effect on auditor skepticism.
While enhanced skepticism is a key argument for requiring auditor rotation, a new report suggests that what really happens is the opposite.

It's always a good time for a succession planning reminder.

A sole practitioner’s career can be very rewarding and fulfilling. But what happens when you’re ready to step down? If you haven’t thought about succession planning and future-proofing your practice, now is the time to ask some searching questions.

Here are some key tips that sole practitioners should keep in mind: http://bit.ly/1KG1vaI

A discussion of the latest US proposal for naming the audit partner.
When it comes to auditing financial information, under current professional rules, only the name of the auditing firm appears at the bottom of audit reports. But that is about to change. The individual auditor’s name will now be reported. Is the new rule a good thing? Maybe, maybe not.

"When you enter a two-digit year using the digits 00 to 29, Excel then assumes you mean 2000 to 2029; but when you enter dates into Excel using the two digits ranging from 30 to 99, Excel assumes you mean 1930 to 1999."
Help! My future value calculations don't make any sense. The formula in column D is the same for all rows, but for unknown reasons, it stops working after row 7. What's going on?

"The ideal size of an audit committee is three to five members".
Assembling an audit committee is child's play. Building one that will be maximally effective, however, takes more finesse. And the strategy extends well beyond selecting qualified committee members. What does the charter include? How large is the team? Are they empowered to ask the tough questions? These are all key factors influencing just how effective your audit committee can be.

Story
Introduction
I'm a chartered accountant and member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (previously known as the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia).

My interest in exploring how accountants can use social media led me to Google+ in 2011. I'm interested in how accountants can be better professionals, business leaders, employers, marketers, client relationship managers and trusted advisers, and so I regularly post links to these topics, and to others that help me make sense of being an accountant in the second decade of the 21st century. Your comments, encouragement and opinions are always welcome.
