This is really impressive (and also hilarious, when they start throwing boxes around)

Thanks to +Ivan DeWolf  et al. for the link to this very impressive work using optimization to discover muscle placement and controllers. Watch the video! My friend +Michiel van de Panne is the middle author. Paper here: http://www.staff.science.uu.nl/~geijt101/papers/SA2013/

+Andrew Roberts That was for The Movies. Google Drive now syncs photos and videos with G+ so I rediscovered a load of old clips I've had squirreled away for years

Today I spotted some mutated acorns on the yard. Apparently they're Knopper galls, created when a tiny wasp injects an acorn with an egg and a mix of chemicals. And the wasps have a weird two-phase breeding cycle where the generation born from Pedunculate Oaks are all females. The females then lay eggs inside Turkey Oak catkins, which hatch into a generation of male and female wasps.

Such a strange hack.

Also, artichoke galls http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oak_artichoke_gall . Imagine injecting a tree with a chemical and having it grow into a house.

Got bitten by something in the garden yesterday. Wondering what super powers I'm going to end up with.

This is nearly 12 years old now! I still hope Microsoft decide to make this some day.

Looks pretty good for an Xbox 1 (not Xbox One!) game.

I shouldn't have started playing this, it's far too addictive.

I imagine it's intensely annoying listening to someone else play.

If I may jump in and brag about my mobile carrier, on T-Mo with a $120 family plan that they promised was honest-to-God unlimited-everything, in rush hour in midtown Manhattan I clocked 34mbps down/14mbps up, 35ms ping. That's nuts. It's not what AT&T prepared me for.

Tether a few testing machines at work, rack up maybe four hundred megs a day on that, no problem. Verizon FiOS at home is throttling our youtube again, iptables trick didn't work? Just gotta tap that hotspot widget for me and the missus and goodbye buffering.

Then there's the unlimited data internationally, which you really appreciate on the other side of the planet. Makes me want to update this old thing I did in 2010.. http://mobilitydigest.com/nyc-drag-race-results-t-mo-tko/

A great hotel, beautifully themed. Our 11th floor room was larger than most other Manhattan rooms I've stayed in. The bed was amazingly comfortable too - all too often I find hotel beds on the soft side, but this bed was nice and firm and I slept well both nights. Lots of nice touches throughout the room and hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would stay again.

The food and service was fantastic. The rib eye I had was one of the best steaks I've had, and the sides were equally delicious. Even more impressive than the food was the service - the waiters were friendly and attentive throughout, and offered us complimentary starters and desserts (which we ate despite being stuffed!) It was quite an expensive meal, but one of my favourite dining experiences to date and well worth every penny.

We keep coming back to this place when ordering takeaways. The food is consistently excellent and it's always delivered on time.
