IE7 was never any better, it was always a pile of shit from the beginning -- IE8 is my baseline when I build sites these days and even then I don't put too much time into making it work well. It was only with that version that they realised their user share was in free-fall and actually started giving a crap about following standards
It's pretty sad when your mother can't print anything off the internet because she's using IE7. I had to convert her to Chrome and she wouldn't let me until Paul convinced her. She likes Chrome a lot better.
