812 days ago we had the idea for Roses Movie, 530 days ago we finished filming, 135 days ago we had our worldwide premiere, and 10 days ago we went to our first film festival (the Christian Worldview Film Festival) and won.
Alex was sitting on my left as they announced the winners. A dude that's always humored my craziest ideas and has been with me during some of the darkest times of my life. A man of God who's never backed down from a fight and whose character has always inspired me.
Sarah sat on my right, my very dearest and nearest friend. A beautiful woman of God that through some wonderful and amazing blessing of Divine Providence has agreed to become my wife in 142 days. A woman who has constantly encouraged me, lifted my spirit, and believed in me.
It was a surreal experience and almost overwhelming when Roses was announced as the Winner of Best Short Film. But as wonderful as it was to win an award and to have over two years of work recognized, by far the greatest feeling was to share that moment with some of the dearest people in my life.
So for the young filmmaker reading this post... remember that it's not about winning awards or receiving the praise of men. To paraphrase Lecrae, if you live for men's acceptance, you’ll die from their rejection. Filmmaking is hard and oftentimes thankless. We may go on to future film festivals and fail miserably. But our identity should never be found in "success" as defined by men. True success is serving the Kingdom of God for His glory.

It's hard to find the words that could describe all the emotions that we're feeling even now. Alex and I came up with the idea for Roses in January of 2013... and now, 26 months later... to see the original vision captured on screen and played before a receptive audience at our very first film festival... and then win "Best Short Film"... Wow.
So many people have told us what a blessing Roses was to them. Who cried while watching our film. Who were touched. Who were moved.
It's an amazing feeling to see Roses come to life and displayed to others. While it won "Best Short Film" we also know that it was only by the grace of God. There were so many other wonderful and excellent shorts at the Christian Worldview Film Festival and under different circumstances many of them could have won first, including Firefly, Book Ends, Now or Never, First Light, and many others. In fact, Wanted even tied with us for 1st place and we couldn't be happier.
In many ways it was an act of confirmation to know that our Kickstarter backers' gifts were not in vain. To know that literally thousands upon thousands of hours spent on the film by our team were recognized.
When we set out to make Roses we did so to showcase talent, tell a powerful and moving story, and to glorify God. We hope and pray that all of these goals were met.
Our thanks go to our God who has blessed us beyond measure, and we thank each of you, our backers, supporters, and fans for believing in us. Without you, none of this would ever have been possible.
But this isn't the end of the story, it's just the beginning. Follow our adventure by joining our email list at rosesmovie.com to be informed when Roses is released online for everyone to enjoy and to stay informed of our latest projects.
